So there's this theory going around the internet right now, thanks in large part to a Reddit post made yesterday, that Jar Jar Binks of the Star Wars trilogies was Sith and ally of Palpatine all along. They've already snagged a website to compile the argument with images and links to relevant clips. It's... at least halfway convincing. And hilarious.
oh god my gf linked me this earlier and i'm still losing my mind over it i don't really care about star wars much, i haven't even seen the original trilogy, but the idea of somebody putting in this much effort and actually having a convincing argument is incredible and i love it.
I like it. I think that would have been a really interesting way to look at the story as a whole, and certainly shocking for tiny me who thought jar jar was hilarious
hey, look! http://jumpingjacktrash.tumblr.com/post/132519858369/pissyeti-videodante-jean-luc-gohard-the omfg
like i don't even care if that turns out to be a fake account it was made in 2009 if it's not legit, then that's some serious investment to the joke and if it's real.... *^*
Honestly, I'm not going to say I think it's canon, but I think it's also a really great interpretation.
I've read this thing and like, I want to say that I am not as convinced as I am. I don't want to believe this, but it's very compelling because 1) it all fits and 2) it's something George Lucas would do. The thing about the droid shooting the wrong way and Jar Jar Binks being like The Mule are particularly compelling bits.
I always fucking forget about the mule and then I read the story again and I'm always surprised and it's the only story that does this to me and I don't understand why
Fucking goddamn it Edit: actually I always forget I've read the story even, which almost never happens to me, so maybe you do have a point there...
The first 2/3 of this theory seems well done and admitedly quite plausable, but the later third seems to disolve into speculation, mainly on two points: First of all, what evedence is there that Jar Jar was the mastermind? I feel it's more likely he was working for Palpatine rather than vice versa. I also feel that if he was supposed to have Dooku's role, then he probably was supposed to die as to have reason to not be in the original trilogy. If he appears to be the villian of the new movie, he is more likely to have risen to power after Palpatine's death. Which brings me to the second part I have issue with. What makes him so sure that he will appear as in the new movie? Literally the only evidence he cites is that there's going to be Gungans. I feel like unless they can pull it off really well, having Jar Jar appear as a bad guy would seem to most people like a misguided out of left field attempt to revamp a disliked character (it would make sense to those aware of this theory, but I'm talking about the general public here).
