so I broke my finger like
    yesterday
    Just the tip tho
but I definitely expected more screaming pain somehow?
mostly, right after I smushed it, I got kind of fainty and had to sit down for a while, which I'm p sure was my brain going WHOA YA DONE FUCKED UP, but it didn't really hurt that much

I do have kind of a weird pain tolerance though. like, stuff might hurt but it isn't interesting enough to pay attention to?

mostly rn it gets throbby enough that I take the pain meds so if this post is out of sync that's probably why, because I don't react a whole lot to pain but drowsy meds knock me for a loop

I wish there was a way you could compare pain tolerance to the norm. and then you could be "well this is a 2 on the pain scale, and I'm at level 3 pain tolerance"

    Same for me.

I have a very high pain threshold, as well as a high pain tolerance - pain doesn't register for me when it would for most people, and I don't seem to be as bothered by it when it does register as most people are. It's weird. Convenient at times, inconvenient at times. It has made it hard for me to understand why other people care about avoiding minor pain so much, since to me it barely seems worth taking note of. It's very odd. I second your wish for a way to compare experiences of pain across different people!

meanwhile, 2 days later, the splint is the most irritating thing about this

apparently it takes 4 weeks for bone to heal? how is this possible

I better not have to wear this thing for 4 weeks

also the pain meds haven't been used since I wrote this post, so literally there is like, bruising and swelling and no pain

on the other hand, I stubbed my toe once and complained about it for a solid 2 days

Oh, regarding pain after the initial break: often, right after a traumatic injury like that, people report more shock/confusion/faintness than direct pain, so that part isn't necessarily unusual.

Broken fingers and toes are often among the most minor breaks, and most people don't experience much pain with them except when they're jostled after they've been set/splinted. They do usually swell quite a bit, however. I've broken a couple toes and a finger mildly, and didn't do anything about them except tape them to the neighboring digit. ymmv.

Yup, bone takes at least four weeks to heal, and if you want it to heal properly, you will have to wear the splint all four weeks, sorry.
