TODAY IS OCTOBER 3RD

thread for FMA aka Fullmetal Alchemist 2003/brotherhood/manga! fma is one of my all time favorite stories and i was a complete loner during the time i was watching FMA and i have so many suppressed screams about it the discussion in tumblr.txt yesterday made me remember how much i love it

another thing i rememberd yesterday: my massive crush on riza hawkeye

 

Riza is best. Also I am a terrible fan because I have yet to finish the series (actually, I think that might be a lie....I think I did finish it, but I have a shitty memory and a tendency to block out the fact that I've finished a series because I want to believe it's still going)

Also also can we just talk about Hughes and how that was COMPLETELY NOT COOL?!?!?! I AM STILL ANGRY ABOUT THIS!!!!

 

HUGHES WAS GOOD like i love envy but HUGES WAS SUCH A GOOD ;_;

 

Envy was one of my first "I can't tell if this is male or female but I don't actually care because pretty" moments. Also one of the first characters I wanted to cosplay but that never happened for many reasons.

ALSO NINA i might have cried a little when I realized because that was also not cool and whyyyyyyyyyyy

 

i definitely cried nina and alexander deserved so much better

 

god, the Nina episode is the one i won't rewatch, i always skip it because it fucks me up. but like. i've read the manga, and i've watched all of Brotherhood, and i've watched about the first half of the '03 anime, so i've gotten to watch that horror play out 3 times in slightly different forms already.

don't tell the antis but i have lots of Feelings about Ed/Winry. the fact that Winry works on Ed's prosthetics is just so intimate, what great shipping fodder.

fma was actually the first series I read fanfic for? like, long fic.

 

Aw man, the end to the manga was perfect imo. Also, i still really love the first movie with the alternate universe stuff.

My fave is armstrong's sister, the one who runs that wintery base place? Shes just Big Strong No Nonsense Lady and thats one of my favorite character types.

 

the entire Armstrong family (& their CURLS!) are great.

HELL NERDS THIS WAS MY SPECIAL INTEREST IN MY EARLY TEENS I LOVE FMA


Pretty much all the ladies in the series are now my wife and I love them.

 

I really love how Ed/Win is built up over the series, and how Winry's not just The Love Interest who has to get rescued all the time but has a whole storyline and character development of her own independent of her relationship with the Elrics. Also her interactions with Riza that Roy and Ed totally don't understand.

 

It's been a while since I watched/read it but FMA is a very good thing.

You know what my favorite thing about FMA is? The like, blatant disregard for same face. Everyone has a distinct face, and distinct bodytype, and even if it's obvious that Arakawa loves her some beefy dudes and ladies, she puts care and detail into even small side characters??? And I just. I fucking love the diveristy, and the characters that are war victims and chronically ill and disabled but still kicking ass and just. AAAAAAA I love this fucking series.

 

YES!!! the diversity of the characters and even side characters tend to have personality and lives and are INTERESTING just ghfgffdg

 

The heroic legend of arslan and silver spoon by her are pretty great too for diverse body types/faces and characters. Arslan is a manga adapted from a book series and silver spoon is about a guy who went to an agricultural college because he thought it would be way easier than a regular school like his dad wanted him to go to. Both have anime adaptions and both are really great imo.

Edit: double checked, its a high school not college. Japanese schooling kinda trips me up sometimes

 

Fuck, remembering this series always makes a hit in my feelings

 

I don't care how old I am I still want to be Hiromu Arakawa or Izumi Curtis, one or the other, when I grow up.

 

I have to admit, I kinda - am really reluctant to ship Ed <3 Winry. Primarily because, well - I don't quite see it? Or rather, the flush relationship I'd want for both of them involves less comedic assault, and less running around and fucking off without actually telling anyone what they're planning, and also less female-on-male abusive violence played for laughs. (I sort of...am Very Uncomfortable with the fact that Winry's first response to Ed doing something that upsets her is to try and hit him with her wrench or the nearest blunt object. I'm even less comfortable that Ed never quite gets that Winry would just really like to know wtf is going on in his life.)

They might work in diamonds. I can see them having a really good ashen relationship! I am leery about having them in spades, mostly because of the wrenches.
