since we are allowed to discuss any kind of piercings here.... I have a brand-new lip piercing (spiderbite, specifically) and the jewelry backing keeps coming off :/ but other than that it's been pretty sweet! hurts like hell, though. kinda wanna get a navel piercing next. also have my ears pierced in the lobe, two holes right next to each other on both sides, but I don't often wear earrings because suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper sensitive skin + allergy to nickel = cannot wear most earrings that are inexpensive, and do not have money for expensive earrings.
my lobe piercings closed up quite a while ago and i'm not fussed enough about it to get them repierced. doesn't help that like @alex i have a nickel allergy. i have a helix piercing, and i've considered getting a couple more because i really like some of the sets of helix rings i've seen. (and of course now i can't find any pictures...) i've considered getting my sister some quill earrings, but now that she works with small children danglies are not a good choice.
I think migration is mostly caused by improperly done piercings, damage to the surrounding tissue, or rejection of the piercing, so as long as you get it done at a good place that knows what they're doing you should be all right! just be prepared for pain :P oooooh, thanks!! wow, they look really good! and yeah, sensitive skin is so unfun... @budgie ahhhhh yeah nickel allergies are like. the worst. especially for getting lobes pierced, because so much of earring stuff seems to be made with nickel? I've actually been considering getting a helix piercing, in addition to the navel piercing! they look so cooooooooool... what was it like getting it, how much did it hurt? and how long did it take to heal? and yeah, danglies plus children = not great
now that i think about it (it's been a very long time since i've worn anything but my stainless steel hoop), i think i had the double whammy of being allergic to both nickel and silver. the helix piercing was super easy and pretty painless! the main sensation i remember is how loud it seemed, even though they did it with a needle and not a gun. it healed up fairly quickly, despite the fact that i accidentally yanked it out (pro tip: do not wrestle when you have a fresh piercing); i got it changed from the original stud to a hoop about three months later, never had any infection, and as far as i can tell there's no scarring at all. maybe it's just because i'm older and have more perspective, but it actually seemed easier and more painless than having my lobes pierced.
oooooh damn. see, at least I'm not allergic to silver--just the nickel. silver's totally good, thankfully. that's good to know! I might go for that one next, then, I'm not totally sure yet--my lip piercing was done with a needle too, and it also seemed v loud to me? honestly the noise was the worst part of it, worse than the pain :P and I shall do my best to stay away from wrestling with a fresh piercing. and hopefully mine will go as well as yours did! yeah, tbh, having my lip piercing done was easier than the lobe piercing? not more painless, but that might be because I barely even remember what it felt like getting my lobes pierced.
ahhh, yeah, I get that. I've never really heard that, but it's probably better not to risk it if you aren't sure. it probably won't hurt too too much though--just like, a bit, and possibly more than the gun because actually for me getting the piercing with the needle hurt more than my lobes? like not a lot more, but tbh the lip piercing definitely hurt more than the lobes. that might just be placement though, I'm not totally sure. and yeah, I mean, I think most places have some nickel free options--the only problem is price. or in budgie's case, nickel AND silver free :P though titanium would probably work! tragus piercings are cool! but yeah, ugh, money, I toooooootally feel that sentiment. my lip piercing was a $60 piercing fee and then the studs were $40 each and it was just. gah. so much money. it took forever to save up for that one...it probably would have been a $30 piercing fee plus the $40 if I'd just gone with one stud, but I was so dead set on a spiderbite piercing that I just had to do it. so I did. yeah, I got mine pierced when I was 7 too--but for me, it wasn't that bad? like, it was a little pinch, and then it was over. it barely hurt at all for me :P maybe I was just weird like that, because the lip piercing definitely hurt.
I will use this thread to complain that my cartilage piercing studs keep falling out >:-T I have two on the upper helix of my left ear and one in my right tragus, and the tragus stuck came flying out and vanished into the depths of my parents' sofa, never to be seen again. So now I have to order more and try and remember what length the stud was so I don't have it so long it slides about in my ear canal like a slide whistle. RAKKUM FRAKKUM ETC On a mostly non-related note, anyone have stretched lobe piercings?
Hello yes piercing thread! 7 total in my ears: 2 in each lobe, soon to be 3 probably. Conch in each side, and a stud in my upper left ear. Nose ring on the right side Two, er, hidden ones Spoiler Nipple bars! I highly endorse nipple piercings, folks. Super cute on literally everyone, increased sensitivity during sexyfuntimes *wonk* and if you like that endorphin rush from piercings or tats HOO BOY do you get one. I was on cloud nine for like, three hours. I want to get ALL the ear piercings. I definitely tragus and helix but moneyyyy All of mine but nose are baby-level stretched. Ears are 16-14g, and they do the other ones @14 when you get them.
I've got two in each lobe and would consider getting more. I'd quite like more ear piercings, and I'd really like a labret...but in my line of work that comes under the heading of "unconventional", and I care more about my work than I do cool piercings. I might look for a clip on ring, though. I used to have a lot of earrings, but I've gradually lost them or grown less fond of them over the years, so I'm looking out for new everyday jewellery. I bought these from H&M last week: Spoiler They've got a chain, no hook or back. I looped them up through my second piercing to keep them secure while I was cycling, but I actually like the way it looks. And the hole at the top of my ear looks like a piercing, but isn't. :L
I waited for a really long time to get my ears pierced bc it.. kind of freaked me out.. Not the moment of piercing, or having the hole, but the idea that it might get infected or fucked up somehow freaked me way out. Then I got them pierced with a needle at a tattoo parlor and it was fine. The first one she did was fine, the second one I remember I was paying more attention and I heard the noise and it was SO GROSS. But I got over it. Then, like three months later, one of my piercings got infected and closed up. :| I don't wear earrings in the other one as often as I should; I hope that one doesn't close up too. Most of my earrings are little silver studs that have tiny things on them, like tiny deer head or bird or lizard or w/e. This store in town sold them by earring instead of by pair, so some I only have one of, for my asymmetrical style. I like dangly earrings, but they look a bit odd if you only have them in one ear?
I don't lose them often, but I fiddle with them constantly when I wear studs. Although I generally either wear fancy dangly earrings or sturdy sterling silver studs, and the backs of those don't come off too easily. I don't find dangly earrings particularly distracting, but I also never wear overly-heavy earrings. They've got to be light enough that I don't notice them. (The sensation of movement doesn't bother me. I get used to it pretty quickly.)
I love the threaded chain look! That's my plan for when I get my third lobe piercing. That or a chain linked to all my hoops.
I definitely want my other tragus done and a bunch more along my helix. Maybe a scaffold. But it's always the money! :'D I can say that tragus piercings are super easy to care for compared to my experience with other cartilage piercings. It barely hurt, didn't swell, didn't bleed, was healed in three months. The day after I got it I actually forgot completely about it, there was so little pain. Quite the difference from when I got my helix ones done, which hurt like a motherfucker for ages afterwards (although to be fair I was a dumbass and decided to get two done at once. I wouldn't recommend doing that :P) I'd love to wear dangly earring things, but feeling stuff brushing my neck and having things that can catch has never really meshed well with me. My lobes are currently at 1cm diameter (00g I think, once you get much bigger I think they stop measuring them in needle gauges) but I am tempted to stretch up again. And then maybe get dangly glass tentacles. Dangly earrings for stretched lobes always look so cool and I'm a sucker for how cool the tentacle things look. Spoiler MY EARS ARE THINKING WITH PORTALS
I like the look where it's a flesh tunnel with a big captive bead hoop through it. So jingly! Also, with moneys, check tattoo/piercing shops for specials. The one I go to has a daily specials board. I don't remember all of them but it's like, "Two Nipple Tuesdays" and "Tongue Thursdays" I kiiiinda wanna get my tongue done? Just because oral fixation and having a clicky thing IN my mouth but ughhh "respectability"
thought you might be interested to see the more general body modification thread. i like the idea of a just piercings thread though, bod mod was mostly tattoo talk anyway. i'd love to get a helix piercing, but everything i've read about it was like DO NOT TOUCH AND ESPECIALLY DO NOT SPIN A NEW PIERCING and i don't think i could keep my hands away because earring fidgeting is a bad habit i can't seem to break.
heh, i definitely was not the best behaved with my helix, but mine healed up nice. maybe just be sure to wear other earrings at the same time so you fidget with those instead?
