Escape From Homeworld: Planning/Gemsona stuff goes here

BECAUSE WHO NEEDS SLEEP.

Okay so! What we have so far -

Three (possibly more) 'flawed' Pearls who have suddenly decided that the slave life is not for them (maybe inspired by the tales of Rose Quartz's 'mad' Pearl trickling back from Earth?) and decide to skaddle with whatever they can carry and maybe abscond with a (not very) reluctant Citrine for actual piloting skills.

May involve navel-gazing, Mad Max references, and inordinate amounts of distant screaming from the geology nerd section.

HAVE AT THEE, PEOPLE! The brainstorming starts here :D

General bits about what Gemsonas I have -

Citrine is technically a Quartz on the same quality as Rose and Amethyst, so she could be destined for great things if she could stop nearly flunking basic training. She runs off and hides a lot, and reads - what kind of a soldier likes reading, anyways? Especially a Quartz. She's a bit defective but strives hard to hide it, and only really voices her thoughts when she thinks she's alone... or technically alone.

That's where Haematite comes in. When I first came up with her, I thought she was a single gem, but now after the Answer she's actually two smaller Haematites semi-permafused, Head Gem and Wrist Gem. Their job was once to act as a Bracer for a Kindergarden - literally shoring up and holding in place common earth so more delicate Gems weren't crushed by the seeding drills as they grew.

They weren't very good at it. There was a rockslide, and one of out of the three haematite gems were shattered. Other more important gems were broken as well, and as punishment the two survivors have to stand day in and out, holding the heavy hangar bay doors open. Wrist Gem thinks they deserve it, but Head gem is sick of it.

It was Head Gem who started paying attention when Citrine would come and hide by them.

so yeah does she sound good? she'd probably be the most anxious and helpless of the bunch and latch onto whichever of the other pearls gives off more authority vibes, bc she has the least real life skills. she could also be prone to babbling as her owner wouldn't have allowed her to talk during her official functions.

You could do brainstorming, and maybe jump in from time to time to run NPCs? That way you can do short-term characters who everyone expects to fade out of the story after a short time.

 

I could also do that occasionally.

 

Anyone is welcome to toss their own ideas at this thing! Also if you have a gemsona TELL US ALL THE THING and we can fit them in somewhere :D

I'd love to join in and give Tektite a chance to shine, but I'm really bad at committing! I'll try anyway though. :D

Spoiler: tektite aka Supreme Gem Spergette

So here, Tektites are basically technicians on the same basic social level as Peridots, but with more of a specialty in communications and transit. (Possibly responsible for designing the Warp System?)

Our Tektite is really, really devoted to her work under Yellow Diamond--not out of loyalty, but because she thinks it's the single most interesting thing ever and if you ask her about it she'll spew technobabble for hours, because Gem Autism. She just really loves her job okay. However, she's technically classified as defective, and the fact that she's one of the most talented Tektites around is basically the only reason she hasn't been crushed.

Sometimes Tektite goes nonverbal when she's freaking out (which is not a rare occurrence), at which point she generally resorts to communicating via her screens and such (she DOES specialize in that sort of thing...). She generally makes a lot of typos while doing so, because that kinda happens when you're freaking out super bad, and sometimes that frustrates her further, but usually she's able to get her point across.

Aside from her panic issues, though, Tektite is generally really cheerful and upbeat, and incredibly amicable when she's feeling social. She has adopted one of her Robonoids as a pet of sorts, and she takes it (her, she insists) pretty much everywhere, though she's usually stored in her gem for safekeeping.

Besides the Robonoid, though, she's pretty short on friends, and tends to glom on to any group that will have her. And that's why she's coming with. FUCK YEAH FRIENDSHIP.

 

She sounds awesome! (And also I may have a soft spot for freshwater pearls. I love them so much more than the fancy saltwater ones you have no idea <3)

@Acey TEKTITE SOUNDS ADORABLE OMG. Maybe she can be friends with a super awkward gentle giant Citrine?

Spoiler: my pearl, so far

Here we go! She's a grey freshwater pearl, and her job was keeping everything in order, organizing social functions, taking notes on important things, standing in the background and handing people stuff while looking pretty, probably doing the gem equivalent of making/handing out coffee, etc etc. She's pretty serious, and likes having plans before she does anything.

 

My Pearl probably belongs to a court member of Blue Diamond, possibly an Amethyst or similar (Peri did mention that Amethyst would be the highest ranking one among the crystal gems), that's why she's so purple. she can tell you a lot of facts about weapons from looking at them too, because it's her thing.
She is 'defective' because she has a tedency to run off and ask gems questions when she isn't even allowed to talk, much less to a Sapphire oh my stars, AMETHYST PUT YOUR STUPID PEARL ON A LEASH.
I am pretty sure the first thing my Pearl will do to assert her individuality is ask people to call her 'Lavender'.

Oh no, she looks so sensible XDD (And I totally get the Needing An Actual Plan thing. Citrine's first instinct is to club first and ask questions later, but at least Haematite(s) has had plenty of time to think and dream about escape routes XD)

Why do I feel like gunmetal nerd is going to be the crystalmom of all this chaos? XDD

 

There's plenty of gems that follow that kind of colour - maybe a Smoky Quartz? High-ranked enough to be allowed a Pearl on valour, and not a raw uncut n00b like Citrine.

 

sounds like she'd belong to a noble or general or something like that
smoky quartz? Maybe a particularly dark sapphire? Maybe Onyx or Alabaster

 

IWANNAPLAY

so i was lurking the embryonic babble in the main SU thread and the comment about "a driver, a secretary, and a glorified hat stand" really caught me so I had a thought

a Pearl who is trained to chauffeur

and also trained to stunt drive

because naturally, her owner needed to Make An Impression, but couldn't be bothered to learn the fancy shit themselves, so, well, that's what you have made-to-order Gems for, RIGHT?

so she is very sleek, probably a black pearl, very conscientious of decorum - she is excellent at following orders to a T, but is also (*gasp*) allowed to improvise occasionally. my thoughts on this are that her owner ordered her to essentially "make me look good, i don't care how, just don't fuck anything up or so help me i will crush you into dust"

she is a perfect driver, but can also pull a perfect 180 with the e-brake without so much as twitching. and also she will bring you your tea and make sure your collar is perfectly straight.

i suspect her owner is/was a Quartz of some kind, very brash, very arrogant, very depersonalizing of lower-ranked gems. a similar personality to Jasper.

I think I'm leaning towards smoky quartz, I'm looking at pictures and it seems good.
