Come celebrate being the trash of the thing!
I'm still mildly amazed that this has managed to actually happen.

Hello, I am also the trash of the thing!

I heard about 30 seconds of "My Shot" in passing when NPR streamed it and almost jumped out of my chair. I bought the soundtrack immediately and have been listening to it non-stop (heh) for months.

Which song is your favorite? I couldn't decide for a while and then I listened to Wait for It and I was dead immediately

Tough choice... I'd have to say it's a tie between Wait for It and The Room Where It Happens. Burr gets all the best songs.

    :D me too.

burr's my hamilton fave. partly 'cause of the songs being awesome and partly 'cause of how i identify with him. like, "talk less, smile more, don't let them know what you're against or what you're for" is basically my tumblr survival strategy, haha.

    and:
    Love doesn't discriminate
    Between the sinners
    And the saints
It takes and it takes and it takes
    And we keep loving anyway
    We laugh and we cry
    And we break
    And we make our mistakes

+ the other variations on that chorus just feel so true and wonderful and awesome.
and i reckon my current user title makes it pretty clear how much i love "i am inimitable, i am an original," yeah?

    burr 5ever
he is what the kids call "relatable"

There is no video recording, yet. But they made the audio recording available and this is what everyone is listening to, I think. Can currently be legally bought from iTunes and suchlike, but some people have put it on 8tracks, for example.

It's also on Spotify! In addition, you can listen while reading annotated lyrics at this page, about halfway down. The annotations include historical context, casting commentary, and sometimes details about staging.

i can definitely second listening through with the annotated lyrics, as someone who knows jack shit about american history it really helped fill out the areas that were a bit blank and unknown for me.

i am also admittedly trash of the thing, as it won't get out of my head and i don't even like most musicals this much usually but i am waking up with cabinet battles ringing in my ears OMF WHY

i gotta concur on Burr having the best numbers, my faves are Wait For It and The Room Where It Happens- with Hurricane shortly following after that

there's something really fascinating to me about the phenomenon of non-americans really liking this musical about the founding of some other dude's country. like it's been turned into a period drama, or a legend? like on one hand i myself think stories about scottish or japanese or roman history are pretty damn cool. dramatic! heroic! full of badasses! but on the other hand i'm sitting there like 'there's someone out there in australia who knows how my government works a lot better than i do.' it's weird!

it's also funny to see like... this incredibly dry, tedious, absolutely miserable unit of school history that we had to read about every year and get tested on, be suddenly something people want to experience voluntarily. really makes you realize how fucking boring school lessons can make even the richest and most exciting narratives.

hah, yes! it basically is a period drama to me, but with the added interest of... oh hey a fair bit of this actually happened (with some creative liberties taken by LMM). i'm also absolutely fascinated by deliberate anachronism for the sake of added meaning, if they had just left it entirely period drama then... ehh it'd be fun but not this much fun. (oh my gosh Hamilton is in a few ways basically like the musical version of Fly Art Productions)

if only all subjects we had to study in school got such an entertaining reworking and reintroduction, i can think of a few that coulda used a musical reinvention (but no, old history teacher, hitler fingerpuppets are never gonna make learning about world war 2 fun just fucking stop it with the hitler fingerpuppets)

It's really weird how much I like this musical, because I'm Brazilian and until I'd listened to it I had no fucking clue who the fuck Alexander Hamilton was, but it's all so vibrant and passionate that I couldn't help getting into it, especially because I am a big fan of musicals.

My favorites are wait for it (soooo relatable) and Satisfied, because I love Angelica and her voice. And I like the beat of ten duel commandments.

smth i can't help but keep thinking is- the line in Hurricane where hamilton sings 'I wrote Eliza love letters until she fell' is always the part where i go 'oh nooo' cos no you dunce she was in love with you before that and it feels like definite foreshadowing of his misunderstanding of his wife's reaction (and Angelica's!)

omfg thank you i never actually understood that line
i was literally like, "until she fell... from heaven? died? fell in love with you? got sick of you? what kind of falling are you talking about, ham?"
    :mystery:
    and now it's not

Also the extended version of The Adams' Administration: if there should be a second song on the soundtrack titled Burn.

this line is fantastic (i love jefferson and his songs, he's so fucking sassy). as much as i love burr's behaviour and can identify with Wait For It- man it's flawwwwwed and prone to backfire when being more forthright would be more necessary

(also- the strain in Burr's voice when he speaks to Hamilton in The Election of 1800 is fantastic, you can just hear the frozen smile and gritted teeth)

Look most of The Room Where It Happens is amazing. Although, I don't remember which bit had the banjo in it...

Also! Have you heard the cut Congratulations song? Because it's basically Angelica tearing into Hamilton beautifully.

I like how, when Jefferson is introduced, it's all sassy and catchy and 'be a dear, Sally' and then whump, oh yeah. Apparently the staging of the show has all his house slaves serving on him in that bit, too?
