It's a roguelike game on Steam for about $15 I think? It's almost always cheaper though. FTL is one of those games that you can just play and play and then it's 3 am and you forgot to sleep. But there's so many different ways to play and so much variation that you'll almost never play with the same loadout twice. It's also on iPad for like $5 as well, though that doesn't let you do mods, which there are so many and they're almost all good too. Basically, I adore this game. You should totally play it :3
You're the last ship in the Federation fleet. (You don't play as the rebels in this game, interestingly.) You have some c ritical information you need to deliver to the Federation base, but the rebels are chasing you, and will try to kill you along the way. You use the scraps of your enemies to upgrade your own ship, and as you play, you unlock new ships to play with later. It was one of the first games I owned on Steam and I've sunk nearly 200 hours into it. I did just check the Steam store, it is only 10 dollars, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes space, sci-fi, strategy games, rougelikes, and good games. Spoiler: Here's a video.
Also a couple years ago there was a big update so stuff will look slightly different from that video. The core gameplay hasn't changed though
It's a fun game, but pretty hard. I think I only ever won it once, and that was on Easy and without the expansion content.
oh! @rats, i have it on my steam account if you want to come over and try it before you buy it. i used to name the crew after firefly characters but i think this time i will go for w359 characters.. :P
I did a run once with naming every character after one of the Homestuck trolls. And renaming the ones I picked up along the way, at least in my head. I'd had a total of twelve different crewmembers by the time I beat the last boss. Vriska (a Mantis), Equius (a Rock person), and Sollux (a Zoltan) were the only survivors. It was a brutal session. Pretty sure no character I've had since has had a higher kill count than Vriska managed, either.
