Hello

Hello everyone, I'm Fishbutt.

I'm a 27 year old Dutch girl/woman who just came out of a really bad marriage. It hadn't lasted very long fortunately, only about six months, and thank god I don't have much to show for it other than some nicely designed wedding invitations, a good set of playing cards and some nice furniture and dishware. No babies, no potential babies, and no puppies that were bought out of some attempt to bind me to him and 'save our marriage' (though that ALMOST happened).

For the rest I'm an animator pretending to be a graphic designer, (I've got the right glasses for the job!) and who really likes mucking about with explaining stuff with the weirdest visuals I can think up of. I'm not very good with text, but at least I don't write like I talk, which involves lots of unfinished sent.... ;)

I've been a follower of Seebs' for over a year and I have them to thank for understanding a lot of what I went through in my marriage. For those curious, there's a long rambling submission I sent them today that explains more or less what I went through. I'm doing fine mostly, I have very good friends and parents who have been incredibly supportive, and the mental payback from this experience has been bearable, so far. But it's only been four months ago, so I'm kind of invoking Murphy's law here. :)

I joined this forum because this feels like a nice place to process all the things that have been buzzing around in my head, and you guys seem awesome. Thanks!

 

Oh, wow, I remember that submission! (I also follow Seebs' tumblr.) Congrats on getting out, and welcome to the forum.

Edit: Wait, no, I totally missed the word "today" and the date on the post, I did not remember that post, I had never read it before I clicked through your link, but my brain very strongly believed that I had, maybe a few months ago? The bit about visiting your parents was especially familiar. What on earth. Oh well, I've read it now, anyway!

Thanks! I had been debating on submitting this for a while, and the more time had passed, the more I wanted to share my story with other people. I don't have a lot of friends here in the US, and while I adore my parents and tell them (almost) everything, there are still elements I'm really uncomfortable sharing with them that still bug me.

Haha. Thanks! I drew it yesterday. And yes, he does. Also: funny story about your username, but I saw it yesterday, and it sent me in a panic, because my ex used to call himself hobo too! But I looked at your posts and saw there was no way you could be him, oof! I had to laugh a little at myself because of it. Paranoid brain is paranoid. :)

Oh well. I just woke up and I'm pretty mellow.

 

Hello! Yes, it's not a nice read. And Hell Marriage is a good title for it! Sounds like a 1950's pulp cover! Also I like the word 'gendersquid', I have no idea what to picture with it but it's perfect. :D

 

Oof. Yeah, can't say I've ever been a married guy, but damn. Assholes ruining a perfectly good name >:(. I can understand the paranoia, sorry about the association!

 

No worries and no need to be sorry! I had a laugh about it and all is fine. Here, have my favourite quote from dead guy who's name I've forgot:

@jacktrash I giggled with glee when you said the mermaid thing. That was very much what I had in mind when I drew it. :D
