I guess I've known about this place for a while, and it always seemed Cool And Sensible and that it had cool people and maybe a friend here. ...and then it had another friend. And then I was browsing around and, hey! Look at that! a third friend. So maybe I'll start lurking and posting around here! I have many thoughts and feelings about Steven Universe, I'm made of 100% Homestuck Recycled Product, (let me tell you about my interpersonal roleplay group drama survivor story) and there's lots of other stuff I like also. I'm a druid? Also I like rolling dice and roleplaying and also diceless roleplaying. I have a slowly growing collection of airplants and succulents. Sup, you guys?
I had a feeling they were popular around here. ^^ Right now my current obsession is Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine, a diceless roleplaying game by Jenna Moran, the author of Nobilis and writer of other excellent RPG content, short stories, and novels. It's a great system for telling stories about stuff like the aforementioned Steven Unvierse, Homestuck, or basically any fantastic-ish setting with a focus on (growing up) the growth and development of the characters and their story arcs. It's also got a rather innovative post-post apocalypse setting. I think I'm about to start running like a character-creation-and-two-sessions 'halfshot,' to introduce some people to how the game works and flex my GM chops. I've played a lot of 3.5 and Pathfinder in my time, and very little 5th edition, but I think 5th is my preferred D&D system. I played a lot of Exalted in college. My ex-girlfriend is running a play-by-post Orpheus game for me and some other friends, and that's been really fun so far. Hmm...I really like the simplicity of FATE-based systems in their many iterations. Dungeon World was kinda fun, but nobody ran it well enough for the magic to click. I really really really want to play Urban Shadows, it looks so good! Hm. I'm really bad at Dominion, Seventh Wonder is lots of fun, and Race For the Galaxy puts me to sleep. I'd like to learn how to play more tabletop board games, in theory, but I'd need an introduction--I don't have much motivation on my own.
Oh hey! Fellow Exalted player! Have you looked at the new edition at all? I will look up Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine - it sounds like it might be up my alley.
I'm more like an ex-Exalted player--I used to play a lot, but I've had bad luck playing it online, and my in-person groups fell apart. I've skimmed the pdfs for the new edition, but I haven't really looked at it in detail. What I've seen and heard of the new edition lately has had me...less than enthused. But if you like it? I'd be interested to hear what you like about it! Chuubo's is pretty fun. It's pretty different from traditional RPGs, so it can be hard to understand at first--but I know me and Vacuum Energy would be happy to help you grok it. And the writing and art and presentation is so nice <3
please do, here on kintsugi storytime is always appreciated. *chinhands* actually, you might make another thread about it on whichever subforum seems most relevant!
There's at least one or two other former members of the roleplay group on this forum, TBH, and I feel like I'd be an asshole to open all that back up again without checking in with everybody. So I think I'll pass for now--it feels more like it would be gossip than story time, right now.
