i'm erin, & i 100% meant to do this several days ago when i first joined. i'm from canada, specifically the eastern part (fresh seafood mmmmmm) i like science fiction, weird, gross & cool science things, steven universe, and video games! i also like cats & dogs.
:D a canadian that likes science fiction, and steven universe! awesome! what are your fave science fiction things (books, movies, characters etc.)?
Science Fiction! Any favorite authors? I grew up on Heinlein, wandered over into Spider Robinson .....what type of weird, gross & cool science things? :D
right now i am absolutely infatuated with the expanse series (leviathan wakes, etc) & ancillary justice! i also like jack mcdevitt's stuff, & cherie priest's books as for sciency things, my fave weird science fact rn is that spiders will incorporate graphene and nanotubes into their webs if you spray them with it in general tho, anything that makes you go "ewwwww, wait hahaha that's awesome" is great!
@inna i should really get around to reading ancillary justice. i purchased it a while ago on kobo and 'cause i've got so many books on there, i haven't got around to it yet. kobo book buying is kinda addictive. i've read leviathan wakes but i dunno if i really got into it. and i think i've read jack mcdevitt's stuff. not 100% sure, though. haven't heard of cherie priest, though. that's a cool fact. :D
@unknownanonymous i forgot to mention alastair reynolds too! i've told so many people that fact this week it's gotten out of hand tbh
@inna alastair reynolds? i'm familiar with him. wasn't my absolute fave but i think i liked him. not completely sure, though. i should probs list off some of the science fiction things i like: robert j. sawyer, star trek, larry niven's known space series (i have nessus feels, basically, particularly when it comes to the of worlds subseries), i'm not finished the hyperion series yet but i like it so far... and i know there are more i like but my mind has just frozen to a halt on this list, apparently. *sighs*
@unknownanonymous i actually just finished the of worlds series and 100% agree, i have many nessus feels (i also really liked the concept of the protectors in the other books). i don't think i've actually heard of robert j. sawyer, though i'm not the best at remembering author names (i have all the books i mentioned right beside me, thank u bookshelf for reminding me what my interests are), but i'll take a look! i love getting recs for sci-fi things. also, star trek. yessssssss (i've really only watched voyager, though)
@inna awesome! i identify a lot with his anxiety/fear, and how he's head-over-heels for nike in fleet and juggler. also, brainweird aliens with a different concept of gender than humans, that have quasi-gay, quasi-het relationships! i'm currently reading protector for the first time ever, though i have so many things going on at the moment, reading and stuff-wise (people mention a thing that sounds cool, so i just have to check it out! someone talks to me about stuff i like and i get wrapped up in that! you know...) that i keep on getting distracted, haha. like, i do a thing and then i get distracted and then i get distracted from that thing and by the time i come back to thing 1, i have been distracted a whole lot. my mind just doesn't stand still. oh, adhd...
It's... *sniff* beautiful. The title is a thing of beauty. I'm putting all these books on my to-read-when-spoons list, thanks.
mine? it's a pic of the moon taken with the worst possible camera & accidentally zoomed out because my photo editing skills are sketchy at best. i'm making a proper avatar (with my own hands! never done it b4), & just using this one as a placeholder for now
