tws for csa and child porn mentions so the long and short if it is that while i was browsing a site for sex comics, i think one of the ads was linking to a site that may have had cp on it. the girls looked super young, like early-mid teens. it freaked me out really bad and i panicked and navigated away. but then i started panicking because what if it is cp? I have to do something to stop this. so i went back to it and i wasn't thinking, i know this was stupid, but i couldn't think of how to find the url of the website bc i was panicking so i clicked the link. the website had a bunch more pictures of early-mid looking teenagers on it. i want to report it in case that's actual cp, but i'm scared to go the police because i'm afraid they'll think i was looking for it. i remember tumblr was passing around a link for a while that was for a site where you could report cp to the doj but i can't find the link again. i'm really scared, but i feel like i have to do something to help. does anyone know what you're supposed to do in this situation?
@Shame-Cube not sure if this is the one you mean, but a quick search brings up http://www.missingkids.org/cybertipline from that site: The CyberTipline is operated in partnership with the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Secret Service, military criminal investigative organizations, U.S. Department of Justice, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force program, as well as other state and local law enforcement agencies. Reports to the CyberTipline are made by the public and Electronic Service Providers. ESPs are required by law to report apparent child pornography to law enforcement via the CyberTipline (18 U.S.C. ยง 2258A).
yes i think that's it. the website wants my personal information though and i'm scared to post it?? i know that's stupid but i'm scared they'll say 'well if you saw it you consumed cp so you're under arrest' or somthing.
if you are worried about that, you can try making a throw away email account, and do something like make the name of the owner "foundit accidentaly" and fill in any other info with fake info like that.
i made the throwaway account. i'm trying to submit the report but it's taking forever?? it lets me get to the last step but then keeps not doing anything, and i'm not sure what to do to help it along.
I know that's a scary thought, but I have it on good authority that they understand that accidents happen. You didn't seek out child porn. Plus, you're reporting it. That's why the tipline is there! Honestly, it was probably a more extreme case of 'barely legal' type stuff, which is pretty distasteful, but, well, generally legal. But it never hurts to report it. And if it won't go through, try using a different browser? A number of .gov websites sadly work best on IE.
thank you for the advice; that's the browser i didn't try. the logical part of me is like 'lol they should know i wasnt looking for it if i'm reporting it' but the illogical part of me is like 'lol i'm going to jail.'
it literally went through right away when i used ie. i'm so confused. ie is the worst browser. thank you hatchback for the advice.
Government websites working in bizarre ways is a hell that I know way too well. I'm glad it went through, you definitely did the right thing!
