So, um, mental health issues have kind of gotten to the point where I feel like I need to get some kind of help. But I have no idea what the system is, what type of help I should even be pursuing, what diagnoses should be looked at or what I need to say, or even how to get an appointment? I have a hard enough time actually articulating my feelings to others at the best of times and usually when I'm nervous about something I just curl up into a stammering ball and sob and I don't think that will help, but I don't know what will help, and I'm really scared about the whole thing. I have insurance through the state but I am fairly sure what I am currently under is only for under 21, so I have until my birthday in August to get anything figured out. We've made an appointment at the clinic I go to for next Monday but beyond that I don't know what to do.
@Alska Thank you very much! I hadn't thought of keeping a journal but that's a really good idea. I do have some take as needed for panic attacks from that one time two years ago I went to the doctor and had a panic attack but I am too scared of instantly getting addicted to take any.
Hmm. As long as you don't need to use it more than a few days in a row, you probably aren't addicted. (This isn't medical advice; but the definition of addiction is when your system becomes so reliant upon it that you don't feel normal without it anymore. So if you use it only a few days, I think you should be fine.) On the other hand, if your medicine is two years old, it might be expired. You may want to get a new prescription.
@Vacuum Energy yeah I just checked and it expored last september -_- thank you for reminding me about that, and yeah a lot of people have told me that but when I am already freaking out its either "this isn't bad enough to take the meds!" Or "I will take this once and spiral downwards into a life of drug addiction" because I'm kind of a ditz
Big agencies in your area (as opposed to private practitioners) may also provide service coordination, which is to help people get connected to, well, services. They'll be able to help you navigate mental health system. They may also be able to help you get on medical assistance or another government insurance.
