Ok so I've had chronic pains almost all my life, usually in my back and stuff. I'm hypermobile but aside from a lot of twisted ankles that don't really affect me. I have breathing problems and easily fatigue/feel dizzy plus get chest pains for standing too long I also have chronic inflammation in my legs, so standing for more than 30sec at a time is very painful. I can walk for way longer but slow walking and standing is Actual hell. This is often triggered extra much by extensive walking/not having access to seating for a long time, but the standing thing is always there I've been eyeing a few canes or maybe even crutches Gel soles don't work for me bc I still put all my weight on my feet, but I often feel better if I grab things or rest on my upper body. It may help my back and chest too I think My parents are against it, they don't want me to be "medicalized" despite me being in a lot of pain ever since it became a Thing. But they don't like medicine in any regards really. They think I'm making mountains out of mole hills if I get aid What do you think?? Is it a possible idea to get some sort of crutch (haha) or relief for the pain or is it not wort it
i cant guarantee if it'll work for you (ymmv) but it's definitely worth trying, and if it helps that'll be really good crutches tend to be sold in pairs so even if you only use 1, you get 2. they give a lot of support, ive used them for fatigue a cane could also be really helpful. for both make sure to check your height against the size of the mobility aid tl;dr yes i think it's worth it
Yes I think that sounds good, been wanting it for quite some time but I also don't want backlash from my parents/want permission to use them Which is kinda bad I gotta ask for that but like :/ what can you do
yeah that sucks, witnessed. is there a way you can work around that? like. hmm they do have fold-up canes that fold up small enough you could try hiding it? and use it when you get outside maybe?
I also have a fold-up cane, it's wonderful. (Also, they often come in interesting patterns - mine has dragon scales.) It definitely sounds like you could benefit from trying out a mobility device. Your parents are being ridiculous about it. (People are often really weird about even minor mobility devices, even though they're about on the level of glasses as far as a small thing being able to massively improve quality of life.)
@Mercury I think I inadvertantly copied you when I bought my cane. ¬_¬' Fold-up canes are pretty great because they give a degree of spontaneity to your life. I'll take mine in a bag (Marvel messenger bag, almost the perfect size) along with my piezoelectric TENS device so that if there's walking to be done that I wasn't aware of, I can actually take part rather than be left in the car or on a bench. And they're adjustable so you can suit it to your height. It does make a difference, even if that difference is only people getting out of your way more adroitly than they usually would.
