ok so the main thing i miss about tumblr is being able to just throw random thoughts at my blog without thinking about who the audience is. people can look or not, i don't care. here, one needs to find the right topic for each item. i mean, we have a skillion topics, and several random chatter type threads, so it's not that it can't be done. but it doesn't have that spontaneity, you know? and status messages are limited and awkward for that sort of thing. what if we made a little subforum in general chatter for people to make a personal thread that's kind of like their little bijou blogette? and folks can come interact or not as they like.
i would 100% love this because right now my vent thread is serving this purpose of "bad shit + catch all of things i want to talk about that don't belong elsewhere" and that has Problems
Yeah, people tend to use their vent threads for that from what I've seen. Typically if you see one with several hundred pages this is the case.
i know some folks (myself included) have used the holler closet/brainbent for that purpose! at this point i mostly use my "vent thread" in order to share meta, my art, and ramble on about various life things, with more serious things being spoilered, just because that suits my needs for it best. i think a designated space for general-purpose personal threads like that would be a pretty good idea. since people have already started doing it, and there might be some folks who would like to have a designated space for Chatter segregated from the space for Venting. i get pretty major anxiety over participating "too much" in general purpose threads, or finding the right thread, or posting the wrong thing, which is why my vent is The Way It Is, and i can't imagine i'm the only person with that anxiety. so yeah, basically, i think this is a very good idea and the existence of primarily-social vent threads proves there's a demand for the thing should it happen.
Yeah, I don't read anyone's vent thread because the actual venting bothers me to read, so I didn't know people were, like, shitposting in there. Having a separate space for that function would be cool.
i would actually love that, even if i know in my heart of hearts i’d have a hundred pages of crossposting initially :P but i think that will help too with the “interaction welcome” aspect of vent chatter that sometimes runs headfirst into “oh no someone is Upset” aspect of vent threads getting used as originally intended
yeah, i was actually just about to say something like that, PR. that worry of accidentally shitposting my way directly into someone's legitimate upset has kept me from participating in a lot of threads. i am a meme goblin but i don't want to post dancing skeleton gif right as someone is trying to talk about a horrible thing that happened ): i'm a lazy fuck who doesn't want to split my thread up, so i'll probably move my entire thread into the chatter one. (threads can be moved, right?) and update OP letting people know it started out as a vent thread, if that's okay with the mod team. either that or camp out in the holler closet because This Is My Hole.
GOD that's a much smarter idea than aggressively going through and quote bombing myself. I've already done it once for the communal WD thread, that idea of doing it again is....... tiresome.............. It would be so much easier to report and move all my venting posts.................
(eyes emoji) yes. I've been wanting to see if ppl here share my (newer) interests but no good way to fight through my anxiety and do it. having a thread dedicated to my bullshit sounds something wonderful
yeah, i don't mind wholesale moving ppl's threads if the request's not too ambiguous. (e.g. "can you move everything that's not venting" well no, i cannot. "can you move everything that is not tagged 'vent'" yeah i can.) gonna wait for other mods to weigh in in case anyone's like "oh god that would make such problems because xyz thing you didn't think of" but it sounds promising.
Currently can't see any problems with it. People are already doing this in vent threads, but separating it out would be nice. There's already things like "vent thread memes" and stuff, and it'd be cool to be able to follow that stuff even when I'm in a bad headspace. The only negative I can see would be redundancy, but I don't really think that's a problem
god that would be perfect. i feel awkward rambling about stuff in the general threads for certain things even though i know it wouldn't be frowned upon cause it's about the thread's subject and every time i've almost started a vent thread it was for. venting, but i get so narrowed in on like. my projects and stuff that i just freeze up and never post (this is also why i am bad at posting to ao3, who needs more maxwil drabbles that deals with depression? me and only me.)
I've been thinking about making a more general thread for posting my random junk in for a long time since the Vent thread just doesn't seem like an appropriate place, but always felt like any idea felt like a very personal idea cluttering up a space where people were doing more inclusive activities. If this were in vogue, I'd love it.
(Also, petition to have the subforum Officially Named Bijou Blogette because that's the most delightful term ever.)
^^^ id love a place for people to Interact with Me and My Potential Content without also being saddled with "if u check this thread there might be some Bad bRain Bombs" this way i'd be able to have a cool fun life update/art/writing thred in the blog bayou and then also have my sad brain thred in the holler closet like a public vs private blog! lov it
