Please correct me if I'm wrong but there doesn't seem to be a thread about Les Miserables (the book or the musical, either is good) and I am in desperate need of people to talk about it with, so... Does anyone want to talk about Les Mis?
Story time: when I was a kid, my dad bought me a copy of les mis at a bookstore. It sat on my bookshelf for like a year and then I was finally like "oh yeah, that exists, better read it" So I read it and then I just sort of sat there like "well, that was a disappointing ending. There are all sorts of loose ends and it just doesn't seem right. Literary classic my foot." And I closed the book and for the first time ever I saw on the front cover: "volume one"
It took me another few months to get around to it but I did get the rest from the library and I was /much/ more satisfied with the ending
ohhh boy I can only imagine. I've only seen the musical so far but I'm. Slowly planning to go through the book. eventually. What characters did you like the most?
I read The Brick for the first time when I was around... eleven, I think, and tiny me was so happy to find someone else who went into endless tangents about interesting but unrelated stuff. I think I'm the only one who actually likes all the filler.
I used to love filler and long descriptions when I was a kid, but the older I am the harder it is for me to read through it :(
Reviving this super old thread because Les Mis! The musical is one that was always playing as a kid and Mum always sang Castle on a Cloud as a lullaby. Whenever I could I used to sit and listen with the libretto (that I snuck out of my parents bedroom) and that had cast photos and stuff in it. Eponine is one of my dream roles. Reading the book it was good to know things like Fantine's backstory, weaving the Thenadier's into the whole thing a lot more and filling the time jump but I really, really don't care about the sewer system in Paris. As for the movie, I will never forgive whoever cast Russell Crowe. I could go on for ages I think but instead I'm gonna stop and leave the funniest thing I have ever seen in my entire life Spoiler: les mis: the board book
