So, there's a ton of Homestucks on this forum, and updates have just started back up again, so I figured this would be the appropriate time to fire up a Homestuck thread. (also check out the classpect thread here) Spoiler: upd8 spoiplers Okay, the whole thing with how Caliborn's screens have seen John's zappy thing is Worrying. How many levels of meta-breaking and anti-meta-breaking are there now? And him being forewarned about the GT kids zapping in is Not Good, although the rules of storytelling pretty much guarantee that it won't go down like this now that Caliborn's showing it to us. (this is why you should leave the writing to the Muses, asshat) I can't say how relived I was to see that the spiral around the stage was purple instead of gold, though. I was seriously worried that Caliborn's masterpiece would involve Calliope in unpleasant ways. WE RISE
Personally, I'm genuinely impressed that Spoiler: upd8 spoipers Caliborn knows claymation to any extent. He's not good at it, but...he can actually do a thing other than murder, and that's sort of impressive for him?
Spoiler The music was beautiful. But yeah, Caliborn's schtick is that he's not good at stuff, but he's really persistent and he has all the time he needs to do everything the hard way. Also I love his little apology for bumping the chest.
Spoiler: i warned you about spoilers bro I would unironically watch the living shit out of an entire series of Claystuck complete with yaois as animated by Caliborn.
I was feeling nostalgic, so here, have a dump of a bunch of old (and less-old) Homestuck fan animations. Spoiler: there's a lot of these Note that this was posted like three months before the reveal of how Terezi was blinded. Anyone else remember the old "get some leaves!" meme?
Spoiler: there's a video limit, apparently I still can't believe they actually finished this. I dunno, what are y'alls old fandom memories? I can't believe it's been six goddamn years. (well, more like four and change for me, personally, but)
I started reading the comic after someone told me there was a vampire space lesbian. Before this I fervently hated Homestuck because the fandom was just. So loud. Nothing grumps me out than people liking things and being happy, how dare they. But yeah vampire space lesbians. That's the best way to get me to do anything honestly. Dangle vampire lesbians in front of me and I will do your bidding. So I started reading and it was nice. Eventually I reached Hivebent. I was on edge. And then Kanaya showed up and I was like YEP THAT IS YOU YOU'RE THE GAY ONE YOU SCREAM GAY VAMPIRE. Soon I learned that Kanaya and I were of like minds. Both liking vampires and sordid vampire romance. And going BLUH at the taste of blood. Kanaya probably drinks juices or something and pretends their blood too, just like me. This is the sort of child who would do that shit.
Oh wow. Homestuck, how does one describe the experience. To be honest this whole journey, the story, the fanworks, the memes... it's been surreal. And now we're in the home stretch of the story, and like. It's been a good trip. Even though I know fanworks are going to die down a little I hope we continue to get awesome stuff from the fandom.
what the fuck is a homestuck help Om a more serious note, are there any starter resources I could read while starting, because it seems so big and complex and hard to get into and I've held off starting because of that. little sister explained it to me over ramen, but I'll be damned if I remember anything beyond TROLLS and kismeseseses. Tumblr's fandom osmosis also wasn't enough.
Yeah. Homestuck's definitely been a major major formative influence and part of my life, and I'll definitely stay in its general finished-fandom orbit long after Hivebent and whatnot are done. Honestly, I'm gonna grab an offline version or something when it's all done so I have it to pass down to people who come along after it's over. And quadrants and second-person present tense fic are gonna be the fandom gifts that keep on giving, I think. I know when my mom was reading the archives, she made a cheat-sheet with all the characters on and updated it with information so she could keep them all straight. I could poke her for it, or you could make a similar thing on your own.
A character sheet like that might help yeah. Or maybe take notes while reading, like what some people do with The Silmarillion. I personally would suggest shotgunning it too if you can. Just binge the ever living fuck out of it. It'll take a while but you'll get through and enough of things should stick. Just read and don't get lost in the fandom things and what not yet. And yeah I will probably stick around in the homestuck fandom after it ends. I have dumb RP adventures to have darnit. Porrim has mob boss Mindfang to date and Scratch to hate. It's certainly influenced me a lot too? It's been fun to view through the lens of my religious things. A lot of my fanworks and rp stuff end up influenced by my language and religion studies too. It's a fun way to practice things and a fun excuse to study things. I really should sit down and do something like "Things that make me think of Buddhism in Homestuck Week" for Irish polytheism. Islam too.
I'm following Lil Sis (the liveblogger) on tumblr. She seems to be pretty good at untangling the callbacks and mysteries that I just kind of tuned out while reading (it was a long long binge-slog and I am not that good at detangling things). I don't know whether it'd work a a kind of companion for first time reader, but uh, here it is. She is not yet all the way caught up, but she has read through most of it, so it should last a while.
