Hey Kintsugi, I write this because I'm finally somewhere with internet. So my partner and I moved (are currently moving?) and we're in a sticky situation. Originally, our move in date was July 7, and we stopped by the 6th to make sure everything was in order. Well, in short it wasn't. They had changed what apartment they were putting us into (a nicer one, so I'm not complaining on that front), but it wouldn't be ready for... they were pretty vague. This was a problem for us because our move out date at our old place was the 9th. We talked to them, and they could extend it a few days, but no more. So we went back to the new place, and told them this. They gave us a temp apartment and let us put our stuff in storage there. We signed out lease and they let us move in (big mistake kiddos don't do this, make them draw up a temp lease) to the temp place and put our new move in date for a week from then. They've continually pushed back our move in date. The next saturday we checked in again to confirm. Oops! Looks like it will be Wednesday. Check in on Tuesday. Oops! We're shooting for this weekend. Needless to say, we're pissed because we've been living out of suitcases packed for a week for two now, we don't have internet nor most of our kitchen. We're trying to get them to give us rent abatement for the time we're essentially squatting, and we're trying to get them to give us a firm move in date. Any advice with this would be great...
Sorry, no helpful advice. Worth checking the wording of the lease and your tenant's rights in your state - I've heard they vary a lot, and reading them over might give you an avenue for leverage.
