I recently had a medication change and I'm pretty sure it's that which is making me hungry a lot more than I should be. I already have weight problems, so does anyone know how to keep this symptom under control?
Risperidone. I know people here have had bad times on it, but I started taking it before I saw the warnings here (psych warned me but I thought it was worth a try) and haven't had any of the serious side effects people listed, just this.
haven't dealt with hunger on meds myself—actually, mine make me not hungry. but I think the same kind of care around eating might be helpful for you, if you can set up a schedule and stick to it? like, I know I have to eat, so I force myself to at scheduled times, and you could limit yourself to only eating at specific times as well if you're worried about weight gain, maybe? I realize that that is, like, bog-standard dieting advice. :/ also maybe consider eating lots of small filling snacks throughout the day instead of bigger meals, if that's at all possible, and drink a lot to fill your stomach. I also know @Mercury has been dealing with hormone-induced hunger lately and is trying to avoid weight gain, so maybe they have some tips for you, if they don't mind me pinging them?
I don't know that I really have any advice - I'm caught in the place where I'm fat but I also don't eat enough left to my own devices, which has fucked up my metabolism, which has been a problem now that HRT has come into play. Regular meals low in animal fats and protein powder mixed into oat milk or nonfat cow's milk twice a day are my new best friends.
If you're ok with just drinking water (i know some people hate plain water) I'd try having a glass of it on hand at most times. I have a tendency to snack too much and just having water seems to help cut down on it, because sometimes my hunger and thirst signals get mixed.
