i'll probably edit this to make it snappier later but i just want to actually make this post instead of sitting on it for even longer does anyone else like noir? i fucking love noir. especially modern scandi noir. favorite series: Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo Kurt Wallander series by Henning Mankell Inspector Van Vetereen series by Hakan Nesser Martin Bora series by Ben Pastor (needs its own post when I have more energy because these books are fucking amazing and super under-appreciated) i listen to mostly audiobooks of scandi noir so i'm your guy if you're curious about pronunciation please tell me about your favorite noir
HI HELLO HI MY LIFE REVOLVES AROUND NOIR AND DECONSTRUCTION OF NOIR i love noir oodles and oodles, especially any of the noir thats also super funny (ie the Dirk Gently series) or modern noir that has all the fun tropes without having much of the less tasteful ones. im also a huge sucker for old stuff though... even if it isnt great re: social stuff it's usually just good schlock which I can always always appreciate ive also been straight up writing noir n shit for years bc i got into the homestuck intermission Hard, and so kind of jumped feet first into it all. its....it's so much fun I love it.
I LOVE NOIR. Since I'm a movie person I've seen more of it than I've read, but omg yes Dirk Gently is so good! Oh, and I'm a total sucker for anything involving gangsters, so Elmore Leonard is my jam.
i've consumed more media that is derivative of noir than actual noir (the dresden files, the penumbra podcast's juno steel sections, all the wrong questions, etc.) but i am at least in theory into it and think i will check out some of the recs here!
same! i've read a few of the original early noir stuff and wasn't quite enamored with it (although i want to give it another chance someday). but oooh podcast, i'm definitely going to check that out :)
I have an unhealthy love for The Big Sleep, which is hardboiled crime I guess but EH. Like the novel in particular. I lived in that city for years. Around the area in which most of the action takes place. I have a nice clear mental image of how things go in the book. I could go on a nice tour of the city and while things do not match up entirely anymore I could find a good deal of things. I love being able to trace a map of the events and the tone of the novel and the way in which Chandler worded himself. I still need to read Chandler's other novels. I need to get to Cain's novels too since he is like. Big in the noir fiction department. I even have a copy of Double Indemnity waiting to be read.
mmm i want to give the old stuff another chance the more i see people talking about it there's a certain charm to it (also i requested this thread to be moved from general chatter to fan town)
It's good stuff what very little of it I've read, but I can see how it might be a hard thing to like...click. I guess. Is the word.
