pin watches things get weirder and weirder (or: pin liveblogs stranger things)

i didn't see a stranger things thread and i'm not really in the mood to clog up my tumblr dash with blather on this so i figured i could make a liveblog thread for this show.

gosh, this show, though!!!

i love all the main characters even when i want to shake them (liiiike hopper. and a few times nancy), the writing seems well done to me, and i love love love how different arcs seem to be different genres (which i knew about beforehand but it's A Lot of fun).

like, for will+his family it starts off as horror/supernatural. nancy's at the beginning was kinda teen romance-y (which. oh my god steve&his friends are The Most Obnoxious), eleven's part is p sci-fi, hopper's is kinda mystery+maybe a bit of police procedural, and i've been told lucas, dustin, and mike's part is kinda reminiscent of the goonies, which makes sense bc that movie was an 80s film.

i'm only on episode 4 so i really don't know what happens buuuuut from the lil blurb that i get on netflix i'm Super Excited for what's gonna happen this episode.

i am Sad about barb. i liked barb. and she is probably dead via Creepy Awful Monster-thing that's currently hunting will. i still have no idea what the hell Creepy Awful Monster-thing even is, esp since there seems to be other dimensions involved in this. unless the Creepy Awful Monster-thing is actually a space alien who can create other dimensions in which to hunt its prey. could also just be a supernatural being tho. i guess we'll have to see!

i'm also wondering what the story on hopper's daughter is. i might have missed it in the beginning episodes bc i didn't have subtitles on, but i'm p sure that she's missing and presumed dead, which made me wonder "hey what if hopper's daughter ends up being eleven, b/c i think in her flashbacks she kept screaming 'papa.'" i could definitely be wrong but like. the fact that hopper was the one to find info on the place where she was being held and someone claimed that their daughter was taken in the papers, and there were pictures of all of those kids in robes like eleven's makes me think otherwise.

i will probably continue to flail in here as i go along.

nancy saw what joyce saw. a monster with no face. i wonder if they researched any specific supernatural creature to base this thing on, or if it's a thing that's semi-original to the show? hmmm.

@raybot it really is!!! the fact that my dad and my bffsie both liked it told me i probably would too (my bffsie and i like a lot of the same stuff, and my dad likes some of the same stuff as me).

i'm currently in the middle of episode 4.

not sure how much i'll be watching tonight bc i have work tomorrow but this episode is lots of fun so far!

oh my god nancy is pulling a nancy drew and the pics john took have a pic of the monster in them. THAT'S how they end up in an alliance. NICE (i want them to be friends so bad. yeah taking those pics of nancy and steve was super creepy but also i don't think that they should have pushed him around and broken his camera over it. like, his brother is missing and now presumed dead bc they have his body (which ??? did the Bad People make a fake body or something??? i am V Confused about that). but steve&his pals are grade-a jerks soooo the fact that they did that does not surprise me.

also i found this pin on etsy and I Want It even if i haven't actually gotten to eps 5 or 6 yet.

GOD DAMN IT, HOPPER. like you're doing Important Shit but you're gonna get yourself killed @ this rate and i'm now Worried about you since NO ONE in this show is safe due to horror being part of its genres. i know you're looking for will and getting will outta the Upside Down is super important but like. i also really don't want you to die. if eleven IS your daughter you deserve to see her again after being so clearly fucking miserable so don't go dying on me yet!!!

annnnd hello jump scares. i don't like jump scares normally but in this case we don't really get a good look @ the monster and the monster doesn't super squick me out+people are more or less fine with all limbs attached, soooo this horror is horror i can handle i think.

oh hello jealousy. i see you're visiting steve. i'd bet that he says something shitty about john or john and nancy both next time he sees them (if he sees them), but idk if he's gonna get to see them again. i almost feel bad for him. i still don't like him at all, but jealousy is not a fun emotion.

....and i'm back to wondering if it's just one huge coincidence that hopper lost his daughter and that's why he's helping joyce, and eleven is someone else's daughter. i really wish we had more info on sarah. :T

stuff lines up for eleven being terry's daughter, jane. it was like eleven, twelve years ago, and terry supposedly miscarried but more than likely they just told her that. the whole papa stuff was a huge red herring. most likely eleven's "papa" really was just the research dude, and she called out for him because he was the one who took care of her. that's why she has no memories of being anyone other than eleven.
(i could be wrong about being wrong but i don't think i am right now)

same, i usually have trouble with visual horror and jump scares and stuff (like i cant do most horror movies) but stranger things was mostly fine. the worst for me was the first like 30 seconds of the first episode, tbh
