Note, researching for the Dead Dove game by looking at hentai site = bad idea. Now my brain's screwing with me about possibly being arrested over drawings of characters who look young, and I know it's fantastically unlikely but I need someone to tell me so.
You've done nothing illegal or wrong. Nobody's going to come and arrest you. Drawings of characters who look young != child porn. I'm sorry your brain is screwing with you, but it really is just that - your brain screwing with you.
I wouldn't have a problem but here in the UK loli/shota art actually is illegal. I don't know if the characters actually were underage though, they were anime drawings and everyone looks like a kid in those.
Ah, OK. I didn't know your location. Apologies for the US-centric reaction. It sounds like you have a good handle on the rational reasons why you're probably fine... I wish I knew what to say to stop the anxiety. Sorry. :(
If they were anime drawings and they only 'look young' as opposed to being explicitly underage, you are going to be okay. The laws are only enforced in cases when it's blatantly clear that the images in question are meant to depict children, and even then, it's very very rare. This sort of shit usually comes up when someone is already convicted of other shit, for example owning actual child pornography. Nobody has the energy to persecute people out of the blue for visiting sites where there potentially are images of young-looking people. (Btw - I lived in the UK for four years, and while I did not seek it out, I did see a significant amount of underage-ish fan art. Later I found out that I did so on heavily monitored university servers. Nothing happened.)
Freaking out again - accidentally clicked shota doujin while looking for other stuff, noped out of there and it wouldn't bother me but then my computer broke. Now I'm terrified that the shop's gonna look through my browsing history, which is stupid because the computer refuses to turn on at all and if they recycle hard drives surely they wipe them first.
To what extent are they illegal here I'm not sure that I was aware of this Edit: never mind, I looked it up. And indeed, fuck me.
1. I don't see why they would need to look at your browsing history to fix your computer. I have never heard of that being a thing 2. Spending a second on a page and then clicking out of it is not an offence 3. Seriously you are not going to go to jail for clicking on a shota doujin by accident. You will be okay, friend *hugs*
Feeling less scared but now I'm sad because I scared another user. Sorry BlackholeKG :( I didn't think they'd need to look at it to fix the machine, but the machine's probably unfixable so I was picturing them recycling the hard drive without wiping it.
