I'm in a Mood, and trying to distract myself from it. A weird synchronism just came up: One of my roomies is making jewellery out of old Magic the Gathering cards (just commons and lands, we're not ripping up good/expensive cards).... and a few friends on plurk, looking to make another small and private fantroll/fankid, reminded me that Magic the Gathering has a lot of cool artwork. So I'm looking around at image archives of MtG artwork, and I'm gonna dump interesting ones in here. Please feel free to add other artwork, photography, and what have you that you think look really cool!
look at the texture of this, the way the artist did the shading and stuff! very cool. grid town! white buildings with stairs winding along them! red/orange tiles! a few baths! plants growing off the rooftops! i like the simplicity of how those flower meadows were done, the airy wiry texture of those spire structures i think i've read #undertail fic like this... holy shit look at these colors star flag nice sketchy spooky art style, curious ghosty poking the candle to see what happens
gods i love vraska, she's so scary. look at that shambling body behind her, the screaming form trapped in the wall growing beside her, the hints of skulls in the stones here and there. the simultaneous growth and decay of her billowing wispy dress the colors are such that it looks pretty on first glance, but oh man, oh man. too much orange, too much pale purple. there's a sickly look to it all, like ghost trees and fog of spirits trickling down that river. the distant mounts are slapdash chunks, half-forgotten, even with details like that little wooden bridge between two of them. nice effect for the passage of time damn i like the colors in this
"yes ma'am" is my first response to seeing her. i really like the teal-green-peach-gold color scheme going on here, and the hints of stars to the serpents emerging from her chestplate, and the way the incense smoke rises into the clouds and yet stands out against them with some of the only purples in the image so many starry entities those hints of tentacles in the ridges around her legs, and the way her blue leg fades into a red that blends with the entity she's riding, and her outfit is the same color as the tentacles themselves so make a more cohesive color scheme that most infamous of rare and banned cards, the contrast of the colors with the rest of the image so pale and desaturated and faded compared to the depth of colors in the flower NECROBOTANY oh man i love corpses reanimated and driven by plant life these trees remind me of kagerou
More excellent setting scenes! Look at the detail, at the huge differences in the aesthetics of each of them...!
