On April 1, a button appeared on Reddit in the subreddit /r/thebutton . It counts down from 60 and every time somebody presses, the timer resets. Only accounts created before April 1 can press and everybody only gets one press. Users who press get different colored flair (special dots after their username) depending on what time the timer was at when they pressed. Sixty to 51 seconds gets purple, 51-41 seconds gets blue, etc. Nonpressers get grey flair.

It's been almost a month and the button still hasn't reached zero (except a couple of times because of technical problems, but those don't count). Lots of people are trying to get red flair, since it's the flair for 11 seconds or less, which the timer rarely reaches.

People with different flairs have made their own groups with their own subreddits. Like, there's the "60 second master race" and the "the emerald council" (Green) and "the middle way" (exactly 30 seconds) etc. My favorite is "Knights of the Button," whose goal is to extend the life of the button for as long as possible. I think the funniest flair-related subreddit is /r/notap , a parody of the weird, cultish anti-masturbation subreddit /r/nofap .

I think it's pretty neat. Has anybody here pressed?

Will one group eventually try to oppress another?

(Not sure why my mind went there.)

The greys already call everybody with non-grey flair "filthy pressers."

And of course people make puns based on irl oppression, like "grey pride" (gay pride) or "no coloreds."

I haven't seen any hate against reds in particular. There are greys who like to say "reds think they're better than the other filthy pressers, but they are still filthy pressers," but that's not hate against reds, just pressers in general. The group that gets the most hate imo is purples, because there's the stereotype that they just saw the button and pressed without thinking.

Also, the "hate" the various groups have for each other is just for fun. Like, I've seen "dirty" and "blasphemous" and "inferior" as insults, but never anything like "fucking piece of shit who needs to die."

I decided to get orange as well since it looks like that's going to be the rarest color and I'm a special little snowflake.

besides the favorite color thing, i'll have to admit my decision was also swayed towards orange because someone described it as giving someone hope for a red and then snatching it out of their hands. since it's just fun and games, that sounded appealing. i'm also one of those assholes who stays dead last in mario cart just to blue shell people >:). and, okay, i too am really happy orange is the rarest color right now.
