So I just binged all of the One Punch Man manga. I want to write an essay about how, despite being totally broken as a fighter, Saitama still manages to be an interesting character based on his traits outside of fighting. Except I'm really bad at writing essays. But anyway, I do think that One is doing a good job of writing a shonen series where there isn't tension about whether the hero will defeat the villain. Too many shonen series depend on successively ramping up each villain's power so that the hero has to struggle and train and master (or asspull) new techniques to defeat them, and the only real question is how long it will take. Also it's pretty cool that this started out as a badly drawn webcomic.

i've only seen what's out so far of the anime and the ova road to hero (and i've seen a few spoilers about king around by accident) but i am so on board the one punch train. mumen rider is best hero. the pun in the thread title is magnificent, btw.
The anime pulled me out of a serious funk. I love the way the avoid taking the expected shounen-action routes.

i just watched two episodes and its the most fun i've had with an anime in a long time just the visual references to other animes are so fucking great

Resurrecting this thread to ask if anyone else here is watching Mob Psycho 100? It's by the same author as the original OPM (ONE), and plays with some of the same themes (ridiculously overpowered main character who couldn't care less, unconventional takes on conventional shonen tropes, deadpan comedy in spades), but also brings in some real deep stuff about coming to your own as an adolescent and what it means to be "special" vs "normal". The animation is gorgeous, and uses ONE's simple, off-the-cuff art and designs as a springboard for some of the most consistently high-quality character animation I've ever seen in anime. (every one of those links to a different scene, because I literally could not pick just one). tl;dr please fucking watch MP100 so i can talk about how much it rules
