If May wins, my only source of income is likely to be cut off. I have family I can move back in with, but I nearly killed myself last time I had to move back in with them because I was stuck out in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do, no money, and no way to get anything to do, plus constantly yapping dogs and a sister I can't stand living with. I need the money from my benefits to be able to have any chance of starting the business I've been trying to start for two years. If the worst happens, what should I do?
And is there any way I can band together with anyone else in that situation to help each other? I feel pretty bad about this. I think it's just generalised anxiety but I hate feeling so unwanted.
I don't know if this is any reassurance but bear in mind that whatever changes the tories make to PIP (I assume you are talking about PIP. I don't know whether there are any changes planned for ESA- which is another source of income if you do not claim it already), nothing will change overnight, which gives you some chance of getting your business up and running, and if you've been assessed recently, your benefit is unlikely to change until you are due for reassessment.
Where are you in the UK? I might be able to point you at some resources but they're all pretty yorkshire based
I'm in Yorkshire too, and on ESA and not PIP. I'm worried in case they change it so I have to apply for PIP because I failed twice.
Are they planning to do that? I can't find any information regarding any changes to ESA along those lines.
Personally if you do find yourelf having to apply for PIP I'd try and see if there are any organisations in your area that can help you fill in the application. That's what happened with me, and I'm fairly certain that I was awarded it pretty much because it wasn't left to me to decide what was and wasn't relevant to the questions...
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back I know that a few friends have had help with benefits from disability action yorkshire , but looking at their website I don't know if they offer that service anymore I've heard Stonham Homestay recommended several times but I think you might need a referral from social services to use them ( i know the link's for norfolk but I do know they operate all over the north) Disability Rights UK offer a lot of resources on various benefits so they might be helpful If you're in North Yorkshire, the council have a benefits maximisation team but you definitely do need a referral to use them. I had a look and I can't find any planned upcoming changes to ESA, but with the election who knows.
