i grew up on these books more than anything else (except maybe musicals in general) and theyre Important To Me. so i started watching the shannara chronicles just now because yes!!! this is my thing!!! my thing is a tv show now and i must watch it!!! i havent read the books in forever - i am re-reading them now but somewhat out of order because i have a couple favorites i want to reread asap - and so i cant speak as to the accuracy of the show but the aesthetic is simultaneously nothing like i expected and everything i could ever want from this adaptation. i am Very Much Enjoying watching it. keeping in mind that im only like 6 episodes in rn: i really like how the show has leaned into the post-apocalyptic angle, which i very much wasnt expecting, because theyve done it without at all giving up the fantasy-ness of it. both parts are important to the setting! both parts are used, and used together! im very happy about it! i remember when i was a kid i didnt realize it was a post-apocalyptic setting until i read antrax and it was explained to me that That Is A Computer and smol nick's mind was blown. shannara was maybe the first thing i ever encountered that didnt choose between scifi and fantasy and instead just did whatever it wanted, and im so glad the show has embraced that. also david peterson made a conlang for it! which is always cool as fuck.
So I just noticed season 2 is up on netflix and I'm really enjoying it so far. They nailed the aesthetic for sure
