Halloween is almost upon us! In honour of this most spooky of holidays, I thought we could have a thread for sharing personal experiences that are unexplainable / paranormal / just plain spoopy.

I'm not particularly sensitive to paranormal stuff myself, but I do have a couple of stories from people I know:

Story 1: The Thing in My Uni Flat
I shared a flat with a friend at university. During our last summer break she went home and I stayed on. A couple of friends had come to visit. I offered them the choice of either sleeping in my flatmate's room or in the living room. My friend went to the doorway of the bedroom, stopped, was quiet for a moment and then said 'I don't think I can go in there'. After they'd left she told me she'd gotten a really bad vibe from the room, like something was in there. Many months later, when we moved out, the landlord (who happened to be flatmate's dad) told us that years and years ago someone had died in that room, but they didn't tell us while we were living there because they didn't want to freak us out.

When my mum was little she was hit by a car while crossing the road. It was very bad. She was rushed to hospital and in to surgery. Whilst she was under, she dreamt she was in a wide, beautiful field. There were figures in the distance beckoning her. She didn't recognise them, but she got the overwhelming feeling that they loved and cared for her. She was somewhat annoyed at being woken up.

Years later, my grandfather told her that she had been dead for a while on the operating table. She'd previously had no idea. She's now sure that what she saw was a kind of afterlife and that the people in the distance were relatives that had passed on.

Anyway that aside my favorite actually "spooky" story actually takes place on Samhainn. There I was out and about getting whiskey for the MorrĂgan I told myself. And then I saw in the sky the biggest flock of crows screeching to high hell. It was all very disconcerting and I had the very strong suspicion that I should go home.

    I did not go home.

So I got the whiskey and began the walk back home WHEN A FUCKING DOG ATTACKED. HE SNARLED AND SNAPPED AND CHASED ME DOWN. I did get away without him destroying me but it was a harrowing experience to say the least.

And that was how the MorrĂgan taught me to take that day fucking seriously.

Other story of the corvids helping isn't so much spooky. Basically I was out wandering the wastes of undeveloped land near my mom's home in the high desert. As I was wandering a raven began to croak very loudly. I went to go look for him despite my sense that I should head home. I couldn't find him and he just seemed to be about wherever I went croaking away. Eventually I gave up and followed the feeling to get home. I got out of the wastes of hell just as it was beginning to get dark. Had I ignored the raven longer I would have had to brave the desert in the dark without a source of light. Which just isn't ideal you know.

long story short i listen to birds

    they tell me shit

    Just remembered a few more.

When I was in high school my English teacher told us the following story: When he was at uni, he and a few friends got hold of a Ouija board. They decided to give it a go one evening while they were at home. The board gave them nonsense answers to their questions and eventually they got bored. They decided to go out to the pub and left the board without saying goodbye or performing any of the closing actions.

When they returned home some hours later there were multiple fire engines on their street. Their flat had burned down whilst they were out.

A colleague of mine has two small children, and lives a few streets away from his parents, the children's grandparents. One morning the grandparents came downstairs to find toys strewn around the living room. They weren't toys the children had brought over and they weren't toys the grandparents kept in the house for them. They boxed the toys up and put them away. The next night the same thing happened. They told their son about it and he couldn't explain it. He advised them to get rid of the toys.

The next morning, he woke up to see toys strewn about his own back garden. Again, not toys the children owned. He and his wife bagged them up and threw them out. This happened for a few nights in a row, until one night one of the kids woke them up saying there was a man in the garden. They shushed the child and tried to send them back to bed, convinced it was just a dream. The child insisted that they come and look. When they went to the window, they saw that yes, there was a man in the garden.

By the time they'd rushed to the back door the man was gone. There was no obvious way he could have gotten out of the garden, as the walls were too high to climb and there was no way out to the front of the house. After that the toys stopped appearing.

Same colleague told me about a series of incidents that happened to a friend. Said friend had a wife and a child and lived close by to my colleague. Weird things started happening in their house. Light bulbs blew. There were knocks at the door late at night but no one was there when they answered. They caught sight of odd things behind them when they looked in mirrors. The husband and child got sick, only to instantly recover once they were out of the house.

My colleague suggested that the friend call a priest from their home country. The priest spoke to the guy for hours, then told him a curse had been put on the family. He gave him a ritual to perform along with some scripture to recite, and said that this would cause the curse to start affecting the person that set it. Once they ascertained who it was, the culprit could perform a further ritual to negate the curse. The friend did as the priest said.

The next day, his wife came down with the same symptoms that he and the children had been suffering from. She had previously been fine. She admitted to setting the curse and did the counter ritual.

It didn't work. The incidents got worse and more frequent. Eventually the friend arranged for the whole family to move back to their home country to escape it. My colleague has no idea what happened after that.

What he does know, though, was that after the friend told him about it he and his family started hearing knocks at their own front door at odd hours, with no one there when they answered. They've since forbidden their children to answer the door.

ok, this one is an alleged alien abduction from my boyfriend's hometown

Apparently, there was a guy who worked the night shift as a security guard in a factory, or the warehouse of a factory? something like that. the building only really had two entrances for employees and one for trucks that was locked at night. all entrances/exits were, of course, filmed.
so one night this guy goes to work and doesn't come back. they review the security footage, and apparently, as he was making the rounds around the factory he saw a weird light, and when he went to investigate simply disappeared. turned a corner and didn't show up in the next security camera at all. his work
he was missing for a good week, and was found in a farm field naked, covered in weird bruises, and really confused - speaking gibberish and the like. it took a while until he went back to normal but he was never normal again and refuses to speak about what happened in any further detail than 'they got me'.
