A few months ago my dad got me these LG bluetooth earbuds that are really good. For some reason, recently, my left earbud stopped working. I'm pretty sure it's the cable because I can sometimes get it to work by twisting the cable a certain way and holding it like that. The thing is, this isn't the first time this has happened. I've had to change headphones like 5 times because of this exact problem. It's always the left headphone/earbud, too! I have no idea what I'm doing that's causing this. Is there any way I can fix it? And does anyone know why I might be having the exact same problem over and over again? Any advice would be appreciated.
Unfortunately, while there are ways to fix it, they are much less cost efficient than just getting a new pair of buds. I can see attempting a repair with hundred dollar headphones for computers, but definitely not earbuds. The side that goes out usually depends on where your device sits and how pressure is applied to the cable. My left side tends to go out all the time too due to the fact that I keep my phone in my back left pocket and sit on it. Usually what happens is a cable has become frayed on one end of the buds (so either the in-ear end or the connection end, usually it's the connection end) and is no longer touching the other cables to create a current, thus not generating sound until you make them touch again.
Earbud wires are notoriously breakable, I've found—it's probably not anything you're doing. Your best bet is probably to get a carrying case for them if you don't have one already (so you're not shoving them into a coat pocket or something) and/or buy cheap earbuds so that replacing them is less financially painful.
What I don’t get is they're never in my pocket or anything. They're weird. They have a pretty freaking durable thing that goes around your neck and connects to your phone through Bluetooth, and from there you can pull the earbuds out. They are really comfortable to have but. Earbud cable.
They wrap around a round spool when retracted. The wires inside probably aren't meant to be so tightly wound and bent and then tugged to get them back out, I would assume. Idk, earbuds are weird. Your best bet for durability is a straight up pair of headphones P:
