So, The F Plus is a podcast that I feel like people on Kintsugi may enjoy. Its tagline is the thread title. They find horrible things on the internet and read it out enthusiastically. The subject matter can range from weird kinks, to bad fanfiction, to obvious cultists, to violent misogynists, to hilariously awful WikiHow articles. Some of their podcasts I can't listen to because I feel bad (mostly the ones about religion), or they're too gross (see: a lot of the kinks ones) but if you enjoy horrible schadenfreude, this is the podcast for you. I should also point out that most of the eps are NSFW (even if you don't think it will go there, it probably will) so I would say, they are definitely 18+ only and if you listen to them in places other people could hear, for the love of god wear headphones. Possible triggers, they generally have a SJ-slant especially when they read misogynistic stuff and rape (everyone groans and yells) and they are generally not homophobic. May occasionally be transphobic? I am probably not very good at picking up on nuance. The podcast is really a "read horrible things and groan loudly about how terrible it is" thing. That said, some eps will trigger people, or at least be upsetting, so approach with caution. They also tend to make fun of otherkin and pagans/witches so do also watch out for that if that is likely to be upsetting for you. Okay, so um yes! I heartily recommend starting with this episode, in which a German guy who has a pet terrapin writes amazing fanfic about Roy Orbison (a 60s jazz musician) being completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is the best thing to ever happen to my ears. I cannot sum up how fucking hilarious it is in words. You need to listen to it. I also recommend: All of the WikiHow eps (best listened to in order) The TvTropes ep A particularly ridiculous micronation that doesn't actually exist (but they have a website) PokeGirls (ABSOLUTELY NSFW AND VERY GROSS but Portaxx's reactions make up for it) Ah yes, dating sites Bad KickStarters Bad IndieGoGos Questionable food recipes More questionable food recipes 3Edgy5U Real Vampires (TM) Bad Sherlock fanfic feat. dog dicks Guy thinks he's running a successful media conglomerate. Has not actually produced any media. People are not very good at song writing but bless them they tried (and The F Plus cast tries to sing said bad song lyrics and it's gr8) Uhh that is all I can think of for now. It's nice also just to browse the site and find something interesting to listen to. I like listening while doing things like playing repetitive flash games or colouring in or doing homework. Hours of questionable fun for all! Anyway uh yes. Thought I would let peeps know it exists! Feel free to discuss also I guess!
This sounds like it's right up my alley. Me and my friends like to find ridiculous things on the Internet and do dramatic readings of them. I'll have to show this to them too, hahaha.
The F Plus is essentially dramatic readings of stupid shit: the podcast. So it sounds like y'all will enjoy it =D
I am (Not) Literally A Bird and I approve of this thread. For real, it's a good one for both actively listening to and putting on in the background while you do something else, and I have been brought to tears more than once.4 I feel as though I should point out that one of the Ridiculists/readers is actually a voice actor! His name is Bunnybread. Episodes with him are generally pretty quality purely because of his voice.
Also: Internet Computer (an animation based on a part of the podcast that didn't make the final cut, but they were able to clean it up and Portaxx animated it. It is great pleas watch it).
CRASHES THE THREAD god do i love the f plus. besides the fact that i've always been fond of horror tourism, just the lighthearted way they do it makes it so wonderful. I adore the supernatural kinkmeme episode despite the fact that I would totally read almost everything they list there.
THREAD IS ALIVE AGAIN For people who've just started: search 'wikihow' on the site and listen to them in order. (They're episodes 44, 52, 119, 176 and 177). Even though I technically still have some episodes in the archive I haven't listened to yet, I still find myself going back to the goddamn wikihow eps.
i had to change my title in honor of finding my new Favorite Thing (oh my god it's beautiful it's all so beautiful)
*KICKS DOWN THE DOOR OF THIS THREAD* i love podcasts already, they're great background music for when i'm working, i just like listening to other people talk, makes me feel less lonely, whatever. i also love dramatic readings. combine that, mix in a healthy dose of wtf, and that's thefpl.us in a nutshell. i am enjoying the hell out of this so much. also, which one is the one that has the super deep voice, because holy shit can he please make motivational tapes for working out, i need that voice
I think he's an actual voice actor? Bunny something In other news, I skipped ahead and have been listening to episode 61 for the past hour. (ROY ORBISON IS NOW COMPLETELY WRAPPED IN CLING FILM)
i was listening to episode, what was it, 3? 4? last night when they were doing forced feeding rapefic and bunnybread was reading it and just. that. in his pornographic voice, showing that he is not at all taking it seriously, i laughed so hard i fell off the couch
hm, this seems nice, but I'm a bit afraid of them being too mean. There is an episode described as "To that end, we're reading the fetish prompts at r/dirtypenpals, to find the profiles of some netizens who are looking for love even though they are unlovable." tagged with " #fetishes #nerds #very popular websites #the perpetually lonely #the internet isn't helping" . Now, as a nerd with kinks and some loneliness issues, is this the kind of content that says that I am unlovable mwhaha? I guess the logic is "Reddit -> neckbeards -> making fun of sad virgins is a cool thing now", which somethiing I have seen elsewhere and is so much contrary to what sex positive feminism should be about (I guess that's the framework they would be in, being SJ-y and all), but tribalism. :/ From the comment section (one comment, with a quote in the middle of it): """"Reddit is pretty gross. Like yeah not 'everyone' is gross but the vast majority kind of is.""NOT ALL OF REDDIT IS GROSS" getting defensive like this just makes you seem as gross as the worst parts of reddit"""" so... saying you are not a monster is proof that you are a monster. wow. I am a tumblr-er, but end up regularly at reddit out of boredom, and I ahve run into one, two objectionable threads at most, and am shit at curating my experience there bc I haven't put in the effort. There are people making harmless jokes, sharing mildly interesting photos of cat food lining up just so... The Mad Max fandom is very informative and positive on there, for one. :(
tbh i listened to their first few episodes, including a kink episode and am listening on one kink episode rn and they get a bit mean, but vastly operate under the principle of "My kink is not your kink (and that's okay). But if you post stuff on the internet about it and I find it and laugh that's also a thing.", while they make fun of weird posts and jumbled spelling by trying to pronounce the typoes. Since I'm going through the archives chronologically (lol @ my habitual archive bingeing) idk if it gets better later on, but rn... If people making fun of more unusual kinks upsets you, you should probably skip teh outright kink themed episodes. I like biting meanness in my humor (I like watching the Jimquisition a lot, if you need a scale of meanness) so I'm not good at gauging if content could be upsetting.
Thank you. The expression that sprung up in my head and have to get it out now is that "well, you can't judge things on goals they don't try to accomplish anyway. Dicks are not good hammers" but this is not only a defense of kinky texts with spelling errors, but also of podcasts with the aim of entertaining people with a bit thicker skin. :) Anyway, I am curious just for personal strategy-forming, not for moral judgement.
