The Great God Sperg

Possible title change in the future but for now here we are. A thread to ramble about gods at length. Or just throw in little tidbits you find interesting. Got some neat stories you know you want to share? Got some weird personal experiences you'd like to share? Go for it! Also feel free to share differing perspectives on the same stories! Gods know I have a different take on the whole the Morrígan and Cú Chulainn issue than many who read the Táin!

 

I don't have much to add just now - I'm just about to go to bed and spoonless - but someone should poke me later to tell some funny trickster god stories if people haven't already heard them.

As far as personal experience goes, though, I try not to mess too much with gods. They're small, fragile things and it seems like courting trouble to pick favourites, impo.

I came into this thread to hear about Sperg, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt and conversation about other gods. GOSH. So offend.

 

let's figure out what Sperg would be like, then.

 

I want to talk about Lugh right now but I cannot think of what to talk about Lugh about. Simply that he is. The best. The literal best. He wanted to be the very best like no one ever was and he fucking became that shit. Oh so you can cook great? So can he! And he can design board games and play those games at a pro level and use spears and make spears and repair spears and be the best host you will ever fucking see.

Norse gods are my one weakness

 

Let's list off some animal associations I guess. Some of these are because of what the animals symbolize. Some are because the god can turn into the animal. Others are because the god uses those animals as messengers and servants. There are many things!

• Lugh: Hawks, eagles, crows, ravens, dogs
  
• Manannán: Horses, sharks, all sorts of fish, seals, motherfucking ass seagulls, pigeons (they hang around beaches in so cal), swans
  
• The Morrígan: Crows, ravens, cows, eels, wolves, cats, dogs
  
• Bríghid: Cows, cats, dogs
• The Dagda: Bulls, dogs
• Cailleach Bheur: Deer (especially red deer), crows, ravens
  
• Aengus mac ind Óg: Swans

 

Freyja, well. She's complicated. One post won't do. Her animal associations are falcons, boars and cats; she has a falcon-feather cloak that lets her fly, her chariot is drawn by two cats, and she has a boar.
