So Magic is first and one of the biggest trading card games in exist. But it's not the only one. It's certainly not the only one. From the slew of crappy movie tie-in games, to the ones from the 90's that literally no one remembers, to the countless anime games there's been a lot of card games and continue to be a lot. So why not have a thread for all of them? Some might be large enough to have their own threads, but a lot of them are smaller games and many of them dead now.

Play card games? Played card games? Just think their wacky and wild history is neat? Then boy howdy is this the thread for you.

I currently am picking up Force of Will and Pokemon. Pokemon we just started for fun and FoW is something my boyfriend plays and which I find interesting enough to at least try. FoW has something of a reputation. One you may in fact know. It's that game. The anime titty game where we made famous historical figures into anime girls. While that last bit was just a single set in the game and while we've diversifying the art, FoW does still look on the surface like a dumb anime waifu card game. And yeah it kind of is a dumb anime card game, but it's a dumb anime card game where Shub-Niggurath is reborn as an adorable Little Bo Peep motherfucker whose goats look like they know a dark, unfathomable secret. A dumb game where a pair of lesbian mages raise Princess Kaguya and her thousands of bunnies. It's one where dumb assholes named things like Milliam, Gil-Lapis, and Rezzard roam about being super cute anime boys while also being dastardly vampires or evil world destroying crazies out for JUSTICE.

It also plays really, really well. The game plays very similarly to Magic in several ways, to the point where it's considered a Magic ripoff by some. But imagine, if you will, the commander format's big fancy thing of "Here's your commander" and a game based around that concept. A game wherein mana-screw does not exist at all because your land equivalents are in a separate deck that are guaranteed at least once per turn. But unlike some of the digital card games popular now like Hearthstone still leave that as a choice you make. Do you turn your ruler to get a stone or not? It is your choice! And choices are lovely. The game has some subtle little rule differences from Magic too. Tired and annoyed of people blocking your shit and the damage not doing through even though you killed that bitch with a removal spell? In FoW if the blocker dies prior to the fight damage or is otherwise removed that shit goes through. Annoyed at having to attack all at once? In FoW you attack one by one. Little bits and bobs like that offer subtle differences from Magic. Some of which make for a more aggressive game, while still allowing slow control decks. I think it's fucking grand, really. If you haven't tried it yet because the art put you off maybe give it a shot? It's honestly not just tits and ass BUT WITH CARDS. It's cheap enough to start out too which is nice.

I've also played the Digimon battle card game, the first DBZ card game, the LotR card game, the Harry Potter card game, the WoW card game before Hearthstone, and several other shitty fucking movie tie-in games.

So motherfucking Force of Will. Perhaps you've been curious about trying it. Maybe you have already tried it and you've found that you really hate wind because it's got cancel spells up the ass and also cheap ramp. Maybe you just think green isn't a creative color.

Then my friends you may be interested in the No-Wind Force of Will tournament. It's a round robin style tournament where all the New Frontier cards are considered legal except Captain Hook and anything Wind. Is it mono-wind cost? Can't play it. Is it a dual-costed card that involves wind? Can't play it. Is it a darkness card that inverts into a wind card? Can't play it. If it's got green on the boarders at all it is illegal. The final day to register is the 15th of March at 11:59 EST. You just post in the reddit thread with a simple **I'M IN** and you're added onto the roaster. The games can be played over either untapped or lackey, but decklists must be shared via gachalog. Lists must be shared with the results of your first round. First round pairings will come in on the 16th of March. The prize, of which there is one for first place, is a 60 dollar steam gift card.

There is other information about how it works in the link to the thread here.
