so, I've had my current laptop since...2010? and it actually still works pretty great, sometimes drawing programs freak it out a lil and I have to leave it alone until it stops overheating but! I figured I should start Looking for a new computer before this one just gives up on me uh, the only thing I'm really married to to is Windows and the trackpoint, but I can always install the trackpoint if I gotta. I don't do a lot of Things with computers, just writing and internet and drawing, and I'd like a dvd drive, but I'm also thinking of getting a smaller screen/more portable laptop (my current one is either 15.6 or 16, and I know that kills battery), so I can find external dvd drives somewhere. oh, also I hate touchscreens. I'd like decent speakers, because mine are shit, and a good battery (though considering mine went three years before saying fuckit, this one is actually not bad) my current is lenovo thinkpad t150 (might edit that, I'm going from memory here on the numbers) anyway, any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated!
@kmoss the best laptop i ever had was a $900 Asus with an i7 processor. (i was doing writing, arting including futzing with DAZ Studio, which is 3D rendering, *AND* video gaming on it.) that was a couple years back. comparable laptops rn are down to $599 and seem to have been adapted to help the heating issues that it had. it would still be plugging away today if i hadn't spilled water on it like a dumbass and exploded the motherboard. http://www.adorama.com/ask401lbws71...mLJfOj_HMoJQe9jm_DNyLWmuH0xvXZ3BAQaAkNk8P8HAQ ^it was something like this, though this one has a bigger screen than it did. 1920x1080 is the minimum resolution i'm willing to use when i'm drawing anymore. i don't personally trust refurbs if you need cheaper, but if you can find a site you trust or have a site you trust to order one, go for it. i just got screwed once and it made me leery. (avoid tigerdirect.com like the plague. :s)
I have heard good things about Asus! Thanks! and I generally don't trust refurbs either, though for me, I've just never used one haha ....and, yeah, probably not buying for a while because I don't even have money for an apt right now, much less a laptop haha
