(Moved from https://kintsugi.seebs.net/threads/...-added-thread-rule-to-first-post.700/page-501) This is a thread for taking about good things that happened when ever you left the house recently! It can be as far as close as your own yard or as far as the other side of the world, but if it happened when you set foot out side the door and you want to talk about it, do it here! Went out to water the plants this morning and there were already 6 or 7 sparrows shuffling for their turn at the new bird feeder. The squirrel hasn't found it yet, but they will eventually. And my surprise squash plant is looking really happy in all this heat, and so are the bean buddies I tossed in the ground to keep it company!
went outside, sat under a tree and read some of lotr, somewhere in the distance someone was practicing drums which amused me because i was reading the bit where the company escapes moria (doom doom drums in the deep park)
went outside, rode bike to work, did not pay attention to stiflingly-humid-but-not-hot weather signals. rode bike home in pouring rain, was actually pretty great. inspected mint and sage plants, realized they weren't kidding when they said grow mint in pots it will take over your yard as it is now twice the size of the sage plant.
Went outside, walked to bookstore. Met new friendly neighborhood cat on the way back. Got to pet cat.
Went outside, drove for twenty minutes listening to music that makes me happy, sent home. Went outside, drove to moirail's house, hung out while she culled her wardrobe, helped her with her dishes, got burritos on the way home.
went outside, cleaned rabbit hutches, waded through my flooded backyard while quietly hoping that the gators i'd seen swimming through it earlier today were elsewhere, narrowly avoided literal globs of pissed off fire ants, retreated back inside to wait til my yard looks a bit less like a low budget version of waterworld.
Part of me really, really wants to get a bunch and just... replace my lawn. My entire neighborhood would smell amazing. We are going to be tearing up the lawn against the back fence and putting up a retaining wall full of flowering plants/climbing vines. I may fill it with mint and morning glories and a wisteria give me my overgrown jungle back yard yessssss
Went outside, picked a bunch of leaves and flowers, took them back inside to press so I can make them into bookmarks later.
IF YOU WANT OVER GROWN JUNGLE/MEADOW LAWN THEN DO I HAVE A PRODUCT FOR YOU It's called Fleur de Lawn and it's a low maintenance lawn seed mix that contains wild english daisies, sweet alyssum, baby blue eyes, dwarf yarrow, annual rye grass and strawberry clover! You can mow it down for a traditional green lawn look, or let it go au naturel and enjoy the flowers. Once it's established it stays green with very little water. I plan on seeding my backyard with it and mixing in some native wild flowers here and there for the "no really, it's TOTALLY a wild story book meadow" look. :D
Am outside. It's not too hot in the shade, the babies aren't screaming (yet), and there's a cool spiderweb in the doorway. Spoiler
Went outside and weeded. It was hot and sweaty and kind of futile considering everything else is dead rn, but I got to visually plan when the space is going to look like over the next couple years and get excited for it all over again. Chatted with the next door neighbor and finally got to meet the other neighbor on the other side (I never see him because he uses the alley behind the houses to come an go instead of the side walk out front).
Went outside, thinking "I haven't checked on my garden in a while, I hope it's not dead." Beheld sixteen-square-foot vegetajungle. Given density of foliage, may be better measured in cubic feet, which would be more like thirty. Thought back over exactly how long I haven't checked on my garden for. "Welp." Left, went to job without touching garden. I think I saw tomatoes in there, though!
I saw a skink with a very blue tail today, sunning itself on the side of the house. It is either the American five-lined skink or the broad-headed skink. Apparently, if I truly wanted to know which, I would have to catch it and examine its post-labial scales. With a magnifying glass. Then I walked into town, paid my electric bill and gift-shopped for my sister-in-law's birthday.
Went outside. Found that my joking about the wild blackberry runners invading my air conditioner were actually true. Got the damn thing out. Ate some blackberries. Decided getting them out of the way otherwise was Too Much Work.
Went outside. Apparently the new friendly neighborhood cat just waits in that spot for people to pass by and pet it. I feel so used. 10/10
