Based on an awesome thread from another forum I used to frequent. I suppose this is kinda a companion thread to the Story Scrapyard.

Feel free to go absolutely nuts with the pipe-dream mechanics and setup, too. Fuck feasibility right in the ear, this is for daydreaming!

Here's some of my posts from the thread in question, to get us started off.

and also one I brainstormed with @Picori

honestly i want a game where i play a werewolf and the mechanics of that are incorporated into the story and also maybe werewolves aren't just fodder enemies for once?

liminal I'm gonna make it through this year if it kills me

I want a mmo based off of the Avatar/Legend of Korra universe. You pick your nation, start out as a bender or nonbender, etc.

I have one dream game. It's under a spoiler because it's rather... unsafe. Since I make games if I ever want to see a game get made (Yandere Raising Sim, Yandere Dating Sim that isn't hot trash, Text Based Guro Game, etc), I just do it myself. But I wish I had people to work with since it's not as much fun doing it yourself.

A simulation game similar to the SIMS but in a more anime-esque style to make it less uncomfortable/uncanny valley where you can design your own 3D models of either sex (and some constructed) and add your own dialogue. There would be a bunch of traits and perks and personality shells that you could use for quick fix and it would be easy to mod so more content could be added. But base fetishes would include the typical vanilla content and noncon and erotic grotesque features. There have been a couple that were interesting but a lack of male options or alternative sexed characters kills it. So, basically what I want is a Fenoxo game with 3D models and a sandbox.

All I really wish for a SFW game would be other people who liked them and wanted to work with me on them since it's pretty frustrating.

Off the top of my head: some sort of visual display of scents when you are in wolfmode and having to establish supply caches in various places that won't be disturbed for when you revert to human naked and without anything. Could be a fun set-up for a sort of sandboxy mystery game: as a human you can talk to people to investigate, as a wolf you have your other senses and more ability to trespass to investigate on your own, as the months go by new things happen or trails go cold and you get forced into one mode then the other more and more by the phase of the moon.

I think my dream game would be something like a third-person RPG (not isometric) based off of Pathfinder/DnD where you could essentially choose from like, five stories? And since this is a dream, each story would have the same amount of world depth and sidequests/stores as a lovechild between Skyrim and DA:I, set on a completely different continent. You could choose a class/race combo, pick a story to start out with, and depending on where you started and what order you went in, the actual stories themselves shifted, and the Overall World Plot altered radically (like, one story is a civil war and another is a massive magical natural disaster you can prevent/lend aid after; if you go to the first one, the land of the second is devastated by magical fallout, but if you do the second first, the first story ends up being about the conquering side by the time you get there).

Also it would be co-op, there would be a romance system as carefully woven into the plot as the Shakarian romance in ME3, and depending on your race/class, there would be certain things that you just cannot do. Being the chosen one isn't going to make you any more the true-born king of the elves, so you can't follow that plot if you aren't one-- and likewise, no one but a paladin or a cleric is going to get to access the Holy Magic Pool of Purity and Thinly Veiled Metaphors for Christianity.

I think that for sake of the story, your co-op partner(s) would be restricted to the same land/thread that you picked, but within that land (and I'm talking the size of Skyrim/one of the WoW continents) you can all head separate directions and do individual sidequests, though major story quests would need everyone to trigger the quest start. So even if your elf bard is ascending the throne and your paladin's listening to the grand clerics, you can still fuck off into town and buy everyone potions.

I think the romances could either be between player characters (so you could, in theory, do a console-version-of-Sims-2 style conversation/interaction style sequence) or a set of NPCs-- and that set would rotate each time, because depending on where you start, that NPC could die in the civil war or join a sect of monks or whatever. There'd be about five per land, and that number would drop by one each time you moved to another 'story', so you could start a romance in the beginning (and they would travel with you) or find true love at the very end.

This would require an obscene amount of manhours and money, but in my heart of hearts, it's secretly what I'm dreaming of when I think of co-op fantasy rpgs.

Ooh, I've had a game idea for AGES, I'm so glad to have a place to share it!

It'd be a fighting game along the lines of Super Smash Bros. Obviously there'd be dozens of characters to play as, all with their own unique abilities and all designed to be played in a different way.

The catch? You don't get to choose who you play as. It's randomized with every match. Your opponent is picked at random too, and obviously if you're playing multiplayer, their character is also picked at random. This forces you to learn how to play as every character, instead of simply defaulting to your fave.

It might work better as a setting on a regular fighting game than as a game in and of itself, but I think it'd be a lot of fun!

Actually, you know what? My second dream game would be Sim 4 with co-op mode like console Sims 2 had.

I forgot how fun that was until I started thinking about it.

While we're talking randomized, apocalyptic survival coop psuedo-MMO. You join a game with a randomized character - random appearance, gender, age, pre-apocalypse profession with stats, skills and equipment generated from that, and get tossed into a group with like 2-5 other players, also with randomized characters in a procedurally generated apocalyptic city map. Not zombies, because fuck zombies. But something with similar breakdown of infrastructure and normal societal responses and cities turned into survival deathtraps with resources lying around more or less overnight. Permadeath - if you die, then when you log back on you've got a new character, group and map. Set the difficulty so it's pretty much impossible to go it alone. Limit player-player communication to their characters: cross-chatter makes noise unless you're taking the time to write and pass notes, only works within earshot unless you've got walkie-talkies or are somewhere where there's still cell service, no identification of who the player is unless the choose to mention it. Greifers would be a problem, of course, but you can always shoot them in the back to get them out of your game.

You probably couldn't really manage continuity across sessions: once people log out, you're not gonna be able to get them all back on the same map at the same time. I guess the thing to do would be to give people some sort of bonus for logging out alive, and if your party manages to establish any supply caches or fortifications without wiping, then everyone in it gets those placed somewhere on their next group's map.

You could also toss two or three groups on the same map (without foreknowledge of each other) and get potential for more interesting interactions there.

    Hoooo boy ok!

Just a few days ago my friends and I were talking about a city building game set long, long after a magical apocalypse where all humans live in sky cities and the Earth has turned into a Fairyland, with all sorts of Fae creatures. You would play as an exiled human who meets a friendly and curious outcast Fae, and the two of you would set up a city for other exiles, outcasts, ect. We would want there to be an element of exploration but not to make resource gathering too tedious, like have a minigame for different ones instead of having to spend a lot of time breaking things down or such. You would be able to build up and renovate buildings easily so that it's not a total pain in the ass to remodel your city. It would start almost like Animal Crossing, with a very personal sense of building a town up from villagers you know well, and as your town becomes bigger it would zoom out a bit but hopefully never loose the personal touch. You would have to find ways to make treaties and establish trade not only with the nearby Fae but eventually with Fae Courts, human cities, ect.

Also I've always wanted a game that's like a post apocalyptic thing but there's no enemies or monsters, you're just confined to one neighborhood and you have to scavenge for supplies. The neighborhood would be 100% detailed and you would be able to go into every shop, school, and house, and slowly through looking at records and journals and pictures and so on you would discover the stories of the people who once lived there.
(It's me, I'm the fan of the walking simulators)

Also I've had an idea for a JRPG-alike about three kids caught up in a rebellion against a magical king, on a large island where the forest holds Fae. There would be your three main characters- Yano the physical fighter, Elin the white mage, and Minli the black mage- and as you get to know people and make allies you can choose from your friend group what person you want to be the fourth party member for the time being. Sometimes you'll want a ranged fighter, or a second white mage, or a more specialized magic user/fighter, or sometimes you need to decipher runes or interpret schematics or talk to ghosts and you'll need to bring someone with that specialized skill. Each of the three has their own goal- Yano wants to build an Aeroplane, Elin wants to find out what happened to his family, Minli the Fae wants to become human, and the rest of the rebellion all have their own ideas on how to fix things- and although those stories all intertwine whatever path you pursue more will alter your view of events and the eventual ending.

Okay, one more (this is probably a lie): a game that looks like a standard RPG or Fire-Emblem kinda setup, where you've got a party of colorful misfits banding together to revolt and take out the evil overlord. Only the game starts in the middle of the final dungeon, with your characters already fast friends and high leveled, and the first level ends with you defeating the evil overlord.

Turns out the game is actually a political strategy game about building/rebuilding a new, working, hopefully better government and infrastructure after the rebellion is won. Lots and lots of different good, bad and intermediate endings, both for your characters and for the nation you are trying to build, based on the choices you make in setting up and running the new government.

As for me I still want to do Boyfriend Atsume, the neko atsume/dating sim hybrid idea I talked about in chat a few months back.

Whoo boy, I'd definitely play that. Especially if there was a 'rainbow' situation with different archetypes, physical appearances and maybe animal ears. Basically, it's extremely relevant to my interests and if I wasn't a low tier text based programmer, I'd love to help you make that a reality. Alas, my skills are as small as the rest of me.

The vague plan is that you are playing a college student (pick one of three archtypes for different routes!) and so at first you only get "normal" potential boyfriends, but as you play the game longer you start attracting robots, anthros, vampires, etc. So yeah there'd definitely be a selection.

Personally I'd do a lot of things to get a chance to play games like Killswitch or What Happened to Agent Small?

I don't quite have any sort of dream concept, but I love love love games that defy and play with expectations. A seemingly ordinary RPG where you might glimpse twisted faces in the crowd, or shadows moving wrong, and it turns out you're actually playing a horror game? Sign me the fuck up.

I'm also an absolute sucker for video game urban legends. Hidden levels, freaky glitches, secret characters, using obscure and esoteric methods to reach parts of the map you shouldn't be in, etc. It would be amazing to play a game where these things were part of the experience. Or a game where editing the game's files or variously modding it was needed to finish it. Or a game with ARG elements that would have you looking for clues and digging through the web or something.

Basically there's a lot of myth and legend and mystery surrounding video games that I'd love to see games actually tap into. These days being able to intentionally trigger glitches or exploits in a video game is basically actual sorcery.

I love that stuff too! It's really the only thing I make. Except instead of just Horror, I make it an out of context Horror instead. So for prototype game I decided to make the player able to interact with previous iterations and have the game change depending on the amount of times you played it. It's basically a very rough concept of things I actually want to do. But if you like that kind of thing, when I start developing games that aren't trash, I'll make a thread for it so you can follow development, yeah?
