Like when Father mistook me for his missing wife, pinned me to the wall and started caressing and kissing me until he realized what he was doing. He punched the wall hard enough to drip blood and stormed out of the Keep, calling for his war-horse and riding off. He didn't come back for days, and the day he did come back he tried to kill me, cut down Winter as she tried to defend me, and I ran. Never to return, and with his curses and banishment ringing in my ears.

Winter died; Kin-slayer, my father's sword, cut her almost in half. She was our wet-nurse, giving up her own child to die to save her Lord's children. And she was a randon, a trained officer with long experience, reduced to all that, destroyed by my father's madness in the ruin of his life.

And I'm OK. Had a better childhood for being kicked out than my brother did who stayed.

 

I am sorry. I am glad someone was able to carry that tale. But I have one question. If she was so trained, why didn't she survive? If you don't want to talk about it, that is fine.

 

I was disowned as soon as i was built by a man named Father. Not sure if that fits this discussion.

 

Because she was caught unprepared when my father was in a killing rage, and Kin-slayer is rather more lethal than your average sword. And because Winter, like most of my father's remaining followers, was weak and half-starved on the meager pickings of the Haunted Lands.
