I have never heard that epithet for Hussie before, but of course, it's perfect. I have a theory! But it's a bit rain-on-parade-y, so I'll put it under a cut. Spoiler: End of the game Basically: consider Game Over and its immediate aftermath. The grim logic of plot has inevitably spiralled down into bleak, unescapable ending. This is it, everyone is dead, nothing can change it. But surely this cannot be the end. This is Homestuck. Homestuck does not do brutal hopelessness. It has to be changed. Except there is nothing that can change it. But wait! There are John's juju powers that are not understood and can therefore made to do anything! Including taking the story and yanking it, contrary to several established rules. So now we have new story (storylet?). Its main distinguishing points are: 1) everyone not dead, 2) Davekat, 3) Strider heart-to-heart. Everyone else is kind of bland. Plot points are dropped like they were hot. But. It is a happy ending. You're thinking what I'm thinking, right? It's fix-it fanfic. Game Over was the ending, everything after was fanfic. Homestuck canonized its own fanfic. Also, after this there is no one alpha timeline any more. Game Over was the narrative end, but by explicitly making the fanficy retcon timeline part of the actual epic, it is... legitimized? So Game Over is true, but the retcon is also true. They're all dead, but they all also won. Schrödinger's Homestuck. (Bonus: Game Over and its immediate aftermath was the last commonly accepted part of Homestuck, I think. A lot of people feel that in the retcon timeline characters were bland and a lot of plot got dropped, but I think everyone accepted Game Over, even if they were traumatized. And what do we say to fanfic we don't agree with? Meh, don't agree, is what we say. Double bonus: it was right there in the title. Game Over.)
