It's game logic all the way down His name was retroactively John after being named. Or, his name was John but the naming ceremony had the chance of retroactively changing it. Like if the player had named him what they wanted.

Sylladices, my favorite game mechanic that kinda just stopped mattering. (I know that they didn't become completely irrelevant, but.... I just love all that boring early-game stuff. Fussing with sylladices, alchemizing shit, Sburb mechanics.)
