    this is true!
sadly, I have no capability for this. others might, but then the question becomes 'how do we get contact to the people who don't have that know-how and thus tell them where to go if electricity is gone?'
another thing I'm thinking about: how quickly does the breakening happen, and what happens with, say, places in the center of a landmass with no water around them except maybe lakes? does the breakening happen all at once, or is it a gradual thing that starts on the edges of landmasses and works its way in? if it's a thing that happens all at once, do the gaps between the breaking landmasses immediately become filled with water, or what?

because, I mean, if we go gradual working its way in sort of a breakening, there's time for people who live inland to plan more and try to contact people. if we go happening all at once sort of a breakening, then there's no time to plan, and there is also potential for, say, loss of family members--I mean, there's no guarantee the breakening will neatly split between your house and the one next to it, it might just rip your house in half.

what does happen to all the water when everything is broken? do the oceans somehow stay put when the landmasses break up? for that matter, what happens to the inside of the planet? Having globs of magma floating around with everything else would be interesting but possibly make survival not feasible at all, considering how much magma there is compared to not-magma in the earth.

Could be only the crust was shattered and everything from the mantle down is somehow still rotating where it always did, being all glowy and molten, and the crust chunks form a shell like a mile or so above it. maybe there are some floating magma globs on the very lowest layers. And then the oceans etc. could be their own, enormous entities floating along with the crust bits.

question that is breaking away from world building but still very important: may I incorporate my dog

As a UK person I'mma just gonna pretend I was over in the US then the world break happened XD

(Also seconding that above comment can I bring Lupin and Tiger into this as their younger selves - Tig would make a really good grain guardian when it gets to that and Lupe's an excellent therapy kitty for the stressed out :p )

Hannah is just....a fluffy hyper puppy without much use. but I will not go anywhere without my pupper. so if the world started splitting apart, my first priority would be to grab her and keep her with me. therefore it is only logical to involve her.

    .......IDEA
@palindromordnilap you should 100% be visiting me when the breakening occurs
....and maybe the house can just split in half and then it will be you, me, and my doggo
    parents?? what parents

What kind of pupper is she? And even if she's not working breed, then she'll still be valuable as a bed-heater - that's what a lot of toy breeds were originally designed for after all XD

she is a Bichon Frise! so actually pretty similar to a toy breed c: her breed was designed to be a lap dog. and also a squirrel hunter, but she's....not very good at that part.

Pfft Tiger can give her hunting lessons she's good at squirrels and birbs XD

that should be interesting to watch, particularly considering that whenever any other human or animal (that isn't a squirrel) is in the vicinity, Hannah's first instinct is play :P

    YES
Also I'm totally building an airship out of a small shard, FYI.

EXCELLENT. me, Alix, and Hannah against the world! or....well, anyone in the world who isn't friendly and willing to work with us, I guess.
    works for me.

Alix and I have decided we are going to accumulate a pack of doggos throughout the story of the breakening by collecting any and all doggos we find along the way

My matesprit's cat, Eris, is a very reliable hunter - she's been indoors for the past few years (and is getting old and pudge) but she used to drag home things nearly the same size as herself, back when we lived in an area where it was safe to let her roam outdoors as she pleased.

Shortwave radio should still work (barring Magic or Physics-breakage causing it not to). Whether anyone's got a radio that'll work for those purposes and knows how to use it is...more variable. Cell towers might still work, since they're basically outputting a type of radio wave, but I'm pretty sure they rely on a power source, so they might well go down when the rest of the power grid does; they're on a different grid than the standard house-powering one, I believe (since it's not helpful in an emergency to not be able to call out), but if I'm remembering right, a big enough power outage can and will fuck up cell phone coverage.

We might end up needing to find a chunk that's got a hardware supply store, and raid it!

Ooh, hm - maybe the magic's doing the same sort of thing it is for the land masses? So you've got blobs of ocean floating around, or possibly like - ribbons of it, weaving between all the chunks of land? I think we probably want the mantle on downwards to stay put, though; given the size of the chunks, it could be that the mantle consists of its own chunk and everything else is rotating around it.

...how are we doing season and biomes for the chunks?

YES GOOD! More doggos is better! I'm bringing in my father-in-law's puppy, Bear, then. (Purebred, unneutered Bermese Mountain Dog.)

hmmmm. so cell towers might be out. I don't have a radio that would work for that....
    but ANYWAY
    ALL THE DOGGOS

I'm voting for ribbons of ocean. As for the mantle, maybe it's still broken into chunks, but lower than the crust shards?

We could build radios, it's a thing that can be done. Apparently, shortwave receivers don't even need electricity.

hmmm. welp, I don't know how to do that, but assuming we could actually get what we needed from my house, I guess we could?

Would there be atmosphere between the shards? Because if not, the airship might not work. I mean, it would have its own atmosphere because of the shard, but it wouldn't be able to move with sails or propellers. Unless we're going for "We accidentally the laws of physics".
