    Of course I am biased.
I have witnessed what happens to universes that kill the Unmaker.
It is not pleasant. [He offers a ball of... reverse-light is the only fitting term for it. It is an information download. Whoever wishes to accept it by touching the ball may know what is in this link.]
Also so far you have not insulted me, so I see no point in threatening. I can let implications that my sparksinger's death is a positive thing slide. Being correctly identified as Evil is something I am quite resigned to.
[He looks more tired than anything.]

... honored walker: yes, he is biased, but not for the reasons you seem to be assuming. Even ignoring the other streams of our multiverse, within our own turning the destruction of death itself has caused no end of trouble, both for those-who-were-once-mortal and my siblings and I. And the Destroyer more than all of us did not wish to see Mortilus fall.

Regardless, it feels like someone just put their weight on a rusted beam, but I can't tell who.

    Uh.

Okay, it's kind of a dumb question, but I am curious, so please don't laugh.

the author speaks [WT/18+] Mage of Space Stanford F. Pines, PhD

Of course Stanford Pines wants to know. And afterward, he thinks for a moment.

"That's very sad, and I am sorry for your loss; but I don't really think any death is really a positive thing. Immortality should not require anyone to die. You spoke against immortality, not this specific situation. Nobody in my family intends to kill anyone at all to achieve our goal, but my partners and I are dead set against the involuntary destruction of sapient life, except when it is the only way to preserve other sapient lives. I've seen too much war to think death is a good. It might be unavoidable now. But I refuse to accept that it has to be that way forever. And I'm tired of hearing that described as hubris."

Onyx Prime The passage of time is highly problematic

...oh, rust and ashes, obtuseness isn't much better an explanation than what Unicron himself gave. [She snorts, getting back to her feet but downsizing to only the stature of a normal Earth racehorse.] Doctor Pines: immortality, in our current iteration, was indirectly granted to mortals because Death himself-- rather, the physical manifestation of death, as expressed by my sire's matter-creation powers-- was killed in a power struggle. Our species has a cyclical life-cycle by which our central being-- our souls, if you will-- pass through a series of varying physical forms interspersed with apparent 'deaths' of each form, but this passing cannot safely occur without Mortilus-- or someone who takes up His duties, which is physically impossible for anyone not on the Hand's power level-- to shepherd disembodied sparks from one frame to the next. As a result, this supposed 'immortality' is actively harmful to our species as a whole. And yes, all things must end, but death should not have been the first to go. [She arches her neck and shakes her head, mane clinking and clattering. She is perhaps a little more riled than she would like to admit by this discussion.]

As for the bias: yes, Unicron did not wish Mortilus's death, but because they were emotionally close, not because Unicron wished our species, our universe, to end all the sooner. I can't find fault with him being a little piqued at the implication that he wished final destruction on his romantic partner.

Ford nods. "I'd posit, however, that that's probably the result of the fact that people tried to gain eternal life by killing. I don't think that's a very good way to become immortal."

I may be biased, but all things must die. To live and change, death needs to exist. That which cannot die cannot change and grow and evolve. Breaking the circle is what Baltreshk does, but Bal's deal is just as much necrourgy.

Why do you wish to defeat death- and from your words I presume the concept is not governed by someone in your universe, or you would be a liar- so badly then? And why do you presume immortality is required for it? Death is not the end until the spark is content and ready to move on after all.

Or will, at least, somewhen in the future. Paradox-space me just hit level 5 and hasn't even left the Land of Steps and Storms yet!

So I'm only 240 and that's not old at all but there's people who are tons older like 7 million years like Burlesque, and a lot of those people died in the big Cybertronian war anyway and there's still people around that're that old, but then I heard humans only live about 80 years which is really young, and Burlesque has seen organic sapient species happen and unhappen just in the course of his lifespan, and I wanted to know why is it all so different? And what's it like being old?

Change itself is reason enough. The wheel turns. Kinnavari heats her forge, Vereyann oils the gears of her pik moon and Aventura chases the green one on her wolf-drawn sled. Mythology is lost on you, but you will forever stay in your apartment and never become a leader if not for it. Desire and greed, and accomplishing it.

"Then you shouldn't have to," Ford says with a shrug. "But you also shouldn't be dragged away by random chance against your will."

"I disagree with you, and I find a lot of the arguments of this nature tend to boil down to, 'it's always been this way, so it must be necessary for it to be this way'. That's not a line of thinking I especially admire." He frowns. "Deirdre, you're smarter than this. It's ridiculous to say that you can't change and grow and evolve if you don't die, given that your death is what actually puts a stop to your doing those things. Things that are alive can't help but change and grow. Knowing what I now know, I'm more than sympathetic to Unicron's particular feelings. However...those parameters do not apply to everyone."

  20. Onyx Prime

Onyx Prime The passage of time is highly problematic

They were not attempting to gain eternal life; this was an unintended byproduct of an untimely true-death. But... yes, the point stands that this immortality is unnatural. And to me and mine, it is undesirable. With the forging of our newest siblings, the universe begins to heal, but... Death himself should never have left in the first place.

...a question, doctor: does your species only have one stretch of time with which to live? We can only truly end once our deepest hopes and wishes are fulfilled, and a strong sparkbond can ensure souls find each other no matter their frame if one or the other or both experiences a minor death, but... if this is not possible, I think I can understand why someone might wish to break free of the cycle.

Not all species are cyclical, uncle.
