Pseudosexual or sex-adjacent Internet roleplaying clearly appeals to prurient interest. It is literally about whether or not the characters will consummate their relationship, and when, and how. It describes sexual conduct, and it lacks serious literary or artistic value.

This isn't about porn, it's about participating in the creation and exchange of obscene materials with minors, and arguably furnishing those minors with said materials.

That screen is their protection. They can say they did their best to reasonably verify age. The age category on Kintsugi says "put whatever you want as long as it looks like you're over 13." That's a problem.

 

So what happens in the case where a minor is initiated sexualized rp with an adult who didn't consent to it?

 

I think of fade to black as "there's almost certainly sex, and it's not being shown. We're skipping to the next important part." That the point of using a FTB is to not depict the sex, but to bookmark 'sex happened, next'.

Yeah, that was one of my thoughts here. If kissing and talk of love, then skipping forward to later, Person A left Person B's sleeping chambers, constitutes pornography? then Tamora Pierce's Lioness Quartet has pornographic material in it. That book series is targeted to young adults, and is widely available in the childrens or teens sections of libraries and book stores.

So either stuff's gotten way raunchier in rp threads than anyone's specifically mentioning, or we're operating off some very varying definitions and notions here.

That's an awful lot of ominous sounding words for "posting a scene in which it is implied that characters, none of whom is played by a minor, have sex, without posting any actual sexual content, in a place where minors MIGHT read it."

 

Legally speaking, I think it would still be the adult's fault, but like most things that happen on the Internet, this kind of thing is illegal-but-unenforceable. However, it's still considered statutory rape even if a minor initiates sexual contact with an adult, so I'm assuming the logic would follow. Again, mobile.

ETA: Should not have to clarify that anyone initiating sexual discussion or contact with anyone else is fucked up. Shouldn't have to, but I'm doing it anyway.

Because that happened here and it made everyone involved pretty damn uncomfortable including the minor once they realized other people were upset. Seems kinda shitty to say that the adult brought it upon themselves.

I'm not referring to feeling upset. I'm referring to the law as I recall it.

 

That if we don't make a rule against adults smutting with minors, someone who isn't in the forum now may join, having never made the agreement, and target minors with their offers of sexual rp?

This is fair but also assumes you knew they were a minor before hand. I have literally had minors lie to me about their ages, roleplay smut with me, then go 'lol I'm 14 how'd I do?' Mind, this was on tumblr (the hive of scum and villainy) but I've seen it happen on other sites (I use to do it to people on Neopets and Gaia!)

I would hope people would be open with their actual ages here, it would be nice if we had some kind of notification of someone's general age that was easy to see (Such as people actually using their profiles), but with the fact that this is a site made for abuse victims who may or may not be hiding their identity that becomes difficult.

Khan IS correct that we need a better age check. I don't think there's a way to age check before a forum in this forum's software though, and if we DO that I would argue that the entire section of RP forums be behind an 18+ wall since it's clear that some people are uncomfortable with even the most commonly used method of protecting minors that one might rp with.
