I hope the stabbing party goes well. Also! Some journals have weirdly fast turnaround. One of the more prestigious in my field has an average turnaround of 72 days (eta: turnaround from submission to publication, not just 'they get back to you whether they're sending it to reviewers'). Most are on the order of months if not years, but this one is fast. GF kicking ass with her ~vapid~ friends is probably narratively most satisfying, but 'peer reviewer shows up with guns and the IRB' amuses me as a concept.
@Emma that makes sense. still makes me nervous! i'm certainly not blaming the doctor. i'm just a little too aware of my own mortality. :P hey everyone, if i die, i want a viking funeral on lake superior. you don't need to mess around with building a pyre if you don't want, though. just load the boat up with explosives, and when i get far enough out from shore, blow me up. :D
i’m back and i’m ok. i’m v sore and tired. the procedure was painful as hell (sedation was optional so i said no thanks) and she couldn’t even drain the cysts. she said she got a little fluid but not enough. so i am definitely going to have to have the surgery. welp. i might take some time off from admin stuff. possibly even from social media. i’m kinda feeling a minecraft marathon.
*giant giant hugs for you* Today I learned that it is Fat Bear Week on Twitter: https://twitter.com/hashtag/FatBearWeek?src=hashtag_click
so the thing about “what would your daemon be” quizzes is that bears aren’t even an option. this invalidates them all. i’m sorry if y’all wasted your time. ... no, i haven’t been rereading ‘republic of heaven community radio’ and thinking how cozy it would be that mine would definitely have settled as basically a furry russet potato the size of a camper. how could you even suggest i’d be so frivolous. i’m 47 years old. obviously i spend all my time doing paperwork and giving unwanted advice.
"if a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound?" yes. yes it does. don't be a damn idjit.
You can get philosophers and physicists by asking whether the vibrations in the air generated by the impact are really 'sound' if there's no brain there to interpret them that way.
Oooo can we get everyone upset by asking loudly whether we’re accounting for nonhuman brains, and then confuse people about what we’re even arguing for by asking whether it’s anthropomorphizing to assume an animal’s interpretation of vibrations should really be understood with human terms?
i dunno y'all, i don't see anyone suggesting that electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum isn't actually light if it doesn't reach a creature with eyes. why should the vibration of a medium not be sound if it doesn't reach ears?
pain clinic yesterday, teeth cleaning today, feel like i might be gonna have a flare because that was a whole lot of prodding. hopefully no medical whatsits for a while now. it's a gorgeous day. i might ask barb to take me rollies in the park despite my tiredness. gorgeous african lady at the pain clinic (i had trouble with her accent so i'm not sure what exactly her title was) suggested adding turmeric to my diet. i do like yellow curry! i think i will make turmeric rice today and see if it's noticeably anti-inflammatory as well as delicious. it's possible that the amount you use as a spice isn't enough to give the anti-inflam benefits, in which case i'd have to buy capsules. she also prescribed me an NSAID that might work better for me than ibuprofen, but we forgot to pick it up yesterday, so i guess i'm starting it tomorrow. i considered asking her "can i take your picture? you would be a great model for the main character's mom in the book i'm writing!" but i chickened out.
Yeah, for turmeric spice benefits, you gotta use like... a lot, and regularly. Like, eat turmeric rice daily that is very yellow from the amount of turmeric you used -regularly. It's supposed to be really good once you get the habit though!
barb made too much bacon (how is that a thing??) for her soup, so i had a crap ton of bacon crumbles on the last of the pumpkin soup, along with radish sprouts since i had to thin the daikon i planted in the greenhouse. DAMN that was good. i wish you could buy bulk daikon seed to make sprouts with. wait, maybe you can. https://hancockseed.com/products/daikon-radish-seed i can get a pound for ten bucks! that's a lotta salad!! ooh, they also have mixed microgreens seed https://hancockseed.com/collections/microgreens-seed now i just gotta solve the drainage/ventilation problem of the growing places in the kitchen so they don't all die of damping-off like my spinach did.
