Don't call. Many states (including the wage and hour laws in my state) require a written demand. Writing a letter--yeah, the old-fashioned kind on paper with a stamp!--will not only be less stressful, but will also preserve your legal rights.
Script: "I called and left a message. This lawyer online said to write a letter, so I did that, too." Then write the letter.
