    Elaienar "sorta spooky"

Have we seen a butterfly fly back to Le Papillon's evil lair? I figured they were just flying off wherever - I don't think they're tame except when possessed.

    strictly quadrilateral alive, alive, alive!

I thought we had, but I might have been mistaken. Hm.

Also there's the time limit after they use their powers. Would probably be a bad thing if they got to Hawkmoth's lair right as their suits disappeared.

My mean side wants to point out they still haven't noticed each other's identity, these aren't exactly bright kids.

But it's probably the time limit, and I don't remember a cleansed butterfly go back to Pappillon either, so he probably loses control of them when they aren't possessed?

And then the question becomes how the hell he managed to have so many white butterflies in the first place. And making them land on him to be Akumatized? Look, I'm just imagining papillon in civilian clothing and a bug net stalking butterflies in Paris.

I like the thought that they're a product of his powers. Like he spawns these things as representations of individuals within a certain radius around his location, which is how he monitors peeps and their emotional states and why an individual who has been akumatized once cannot be akumatized again once their butterfly is purified. He just doesn't have their's anymore, so he can't see them or touch them with his powers.

Every time I see a purification, all I can think is "Ladybugs EAT other bugs, she should just open up and chow down on the Akuma this time", and maybe it won't help, but I would find it hilarious.

I sort of figured their Miraculous kept their civilian identities hidden as long as their in costume, which is why they're only in danger of being seen while transforming. Magic! It makes more sense than anything else, and is a great handwave for why they can't figure out who the other is without being directly told.

I'm watching Stormy Weather and, wow, Stormy is SUPER powerful and has a great design!

I wonder if it's possible for someone to agree with Hawk Moth's deal (which has mind control going on anyway) in order to get powers, and then go 'fuck it' and decide to go for him first instead of Ladybug and Chat Noir? I don't think it's possible for someone akuma-ized to have a proper grasp of consequences and not completely go overboard no matter HOW good their intentions are, but it'd be interesting if Hawk Moth couldn't directly control them once the transformation was complete, just make suggestions.

He can exert some mental pressure on them. Not direct control, but he can definitely hurt them mentally if they try something.

I guess that's shown in a later episode, then? Thanks!

Yeah, he doesn't do it very often, for some reason. Maybe he just thinks "okay, they're causing random havoc which will draw Ladybug and Chat Noir out, so they're technically on task". But he does demonstrate the ability at least once.

Maybe the dude who's main power is to give people lowered inhibitions and superpowers doesn't want to push everyone he temporarily empowers because that could get dangerous for him depending on their pain tolerance or spite level?

Perhaps. I'm not sure it's ever really made clear, and being that this is a children's show I'm not sure it's ever going to be examined.

I got the impression that the Akumas are mostly loose cannons - he doesn't control what powers they will have and can only sorta point them to a general direction (like, remind them to go after the Miraculouses) and offer advice, but isn't in full control of their actions.

i wonder if that's how his powers are designed or if it comes from his basically ensalvement of nooroo meaning he can't access the full pottential of the butterfly Miraculous because he isn't the rightful owner. iirc, Nooroo implied that the butterfly miraculous could give full control of possessed persons, but what hawkmoth does looks a lot more like forceful poking them in a direction.

Why even is he called Hawkmoth? Hawkmoths:
    1) Aren't butterflies,
    2) Are big fat cutie moths that drink nectar.
    3) Look like hummingbirds when they're in flight.

Cause Papillion means butterfly, and Hawkmoth at least sounds slightly intimidating if you don't know what a hawkmoth is.

Hawk's a solid word, good for intimidates. If you called a dude the Sparrow, then you'd expect a nippy little mof, sidekick type, nothing special. A Sparrowhawk, however, that's a dude who'll tear your eyes out, you feel me?

They should have called him Viceroy or Monarch or something.

I guess I'm kinda spoiled by having them in my backyard, I can't be scared of big doofy hummingbird looking moths.

I think monarch would be good bc it's elegant but there's also the ruling association. Hawk Moth is kinda dumb, I agree.

    EDIT: Welp, nevermind, haha.
