I left my room with the intent to find my phone charger and instead just. went to the kitchen and made a salad.
I've never accidentally made a salad (that is some top tier autopilot error, there) but I accidentally load the dishwasher a lot. See, the doorway into the kitchen has magical memory-erasing properties and my brain has "the kitchen needs cleaning" running in the background constantly, so it sorta takes over if I wind up in the kitchen without a clear idea of what I'm doing there.
actually that's just your brain going "new area, time to dump all the old task memory to free up space for the tasks here! oh no what do" like a video game dumping all the info for an old area to load the new one
...You know, that actually makes more sense than a magical memory-erasing doorway. Although I can totally recycle that idea into a book.
there was actually a scientific study on it! it was probably a useful trait before doorways became common.
Me: *takes out kitchen trash to outside cans* Me: *grabs new bag out of garage for the kitchen* Me: *walks out to outside cans, throws away new bag* Me: ...wait
Reminds me of the times I've grabbed an individually-wrapped teabag, opened the wrapper, taken it out, walked over to the trash, and thrown the tea bag out. Usually I catch myself before I actually drop it, but this has happened more than once.
Mostly i just got ahead of myself, i noticed someone had thrown a pizza box behind the kitchen can instead of walking it out and was planning to take it to the recycle when i was grabbing the new bag.
i went to turn my laptop's brightness off and instead turned the volume down to 2 and then sat there for a moment going "why did it get quieter instead of less bright..." the buttons are on opposite sides of the keyboard
I constantly try to dim my phone screen with the volume control. It's an iPhone. There are no physical buttons for brightness. There never have been. I don't know why I do this.
>unwrap candy bar >in hand 1 is candy, in hand 2 is wrapper >look at hand 2 >throw candy bar in the garbage >scream
Similarly, >get nightclothes out of dresser, put on bed >remove daytime clothes, set on bed to sort >pick up nightclothes >put in dirty clothes hamper > ....????????????????
So today I threw my keys in the trash on two separate occasions, once because I had food wrappings in my hand and keys in my hand and if one thing in my hand goes in the trash then obviously everything in my hand goes in the trash, right? And once because I was carrying keys and a small trash bag in the same hand and just plain forgot about the keys when I went to put the small trash bag in the large trash can. Good job, me!
literally just happened right now. >check out subforum on kintsugi; shit this thread looks cool, let's open in new tab >'aw man theres nothing else in this subforum that i wanna look at' >go back to kintsu main page >forgot that i literally just closed subforum tab, so the obvious solution is to CLICK ON IT AGAIN >'aw man theres nothing else in this subforum that i wanna look at' >go back to main page >FORGET TAB-CLOSING FOR A SECOND TIME >CLICK >'aw man there's nothing in this subforum that i wa-- oh my god wtf' >back to main page >cursor is hovering OVER THE SAME SUBFORUM AGAIN BEFORE I STOPPED MYSELF wtf brain, you have the memory capabilities of a literal goldfish
I just made apple cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast and absentmindedly put the oats in the fridge and started to put the apple juice on top of the fridge where I keep the oats before I caught myself.
Yesterday I got up to take a shower. Instead I ended up stopping in the kitchen and getting a drink and then walking back to my room without even making it to the bathroom.
i was showing the substitute teacher where to find the drying cupboard room and instead lead her into the other downstairs art class.
