Or that time Spoiler: Reelection arc spoilers Shirogane ran for reelection as president solely so they could keep hanging out, and she was so grateful for this that she secretly terrified or bribed all the other candidates to drop out of the race and bribed the election committee until he had a 90% lead over the sole other candidate, an unpopular freshman running on a platform of mandatory crew cuts for all male students. And then had a case of the vapors from stress when he gave the kid a fair shake. The Sorting Hat would probably start shouting "SLYTHERIN" when she was three feet away.
Has anyone else checked out the 2019 remake of dororo? I'm pretty obsessed with it right now, it's great! I'd def rate it 18+ though
Legit as in 'has the episode material' or legit as in 'completely legal'. I can provide the first but not the second.
Amazon prime video is currently the sole owner of it, if you want to go legal. Personally I use a skirting-the-edge-of-legal anime streaming app Edit: sole owner is not quite correct, I meant they have sole streaming rights
*Incoherent yelling about Bloom Into You* They really need to make a second season once the manga finishes.
I brought up Sarazanmai to my kappa loving Japanese lit prof and when I confirmed that shirikodama removal is shown in explicit detail she just became the giddiest woman in the entire fucking world. for bloom into you i am most of the way through watching that with my bf. we're on episode 11 now. gonna be buying the manga volumes too.
oh man Gigguk did a video about Gankutsuou and I'm so happy :'D I've loved that series, weird CGI and all, forever and I'm damned picky about what anime I even watch, let alone enjoy. It's the only anime series I own on DVD (though I WOULD get a full physical set of all of Monster too if it weren't financially unfeasible Q_Q) Can't remember if I read The Count of Monte Cristo before or after seeing it, weirdly enough, but that's my favorite classic novel nowadays and I love my unabridged copy to bits.
First ep of the DR. STONE anime is out and lookin great :D they preserved Boichi's art style really well and I love Senku and Taiju's VAs! Definitely have high hopes for this adaptation, we'll see how it goes!
has anyone here watched sarazanmai? I'm vaguely interested in watching it, since I've heard it's apparently quite good and relatively better than penguindrum and yurikuma, but I don't really want to get into it if it turns out to be another poorly-written disaster like those two anime were...
i was dying bc i wanted to re-watch New Game! while my internet was out and couldn't, but now i'm thinking perhaps I should try another series in the same vein.. I'm looking at Mangirl! right now, and hopefully will get the spoons to start watching it. (I'm Weak for slice of life anime and manga about making comics and anime, or working in the industry or adjacent to it.)
...... okay. intro theme is obnoxious and the episodes are only 3 and a half minutes long each .w.; nevermind.
Sarazanmai is wonderful but it's also peak Ikuhara. In a good way I feel, but if you don't like Ikuhara's style you probably won't like Sarazanmai. That is to say it is weird and more concerned with style and theme than it is with anything else. I do think it is more coherently written in terms of plot than some of his stuff has been, but I will admit I find plot the least interesting part of anything I consume so I might not be a good judge on this front. There's also the heavy reuse of animation and using chunks of the animation budget on animating weird things absurdly well that you wouldn't think need to be that Ikuhara is known for. You also need to be prepared for naked men, asses, and going into and pulling things out of said asses. There's a lot of cucumber and plate puns too, but the big thing here is shirikodama and there is no shying away from the fact that shirikodama removal involves sucking things out of someone's ass. On that note, the series is a lot more fun if you know stuff about kappa and Japanese river otters.
