*revives old as fuck thread* I bought cherry shrimp and they came in the mail today! The listing was for 12 plus some extras, so I think I may have gotten around 14-15 total. The extras were basically in case any of them died, but I got lucky and every one of them is alive and active! There is one that looks like she might have only molted partially so I'll keep an eye on her, but I think she'll be fine. But omg I'm really happy because at least 4-5 of them are berried, and one at least besides those has a VERY obvious saddle. Of course ik it's unlikely that they'll all actually hatch given the location change, but I can hope lol. I also got some plants and Amano shrimp the other day, and those shrimp are in the 20g while the cherries are in the 10g since the tanks are right next to each other it's kind of shocking to see them side by side haha. Man, I just wish I could breed amanos, they're really cool. But the larvae are brackish and so I'd need to set up a whole special tank, get the thing that measures salinity, cultivate algae... Killifish would be easier, and I'm honestly considering getting some killifish eggs to try it out someday. The whole process seems very simple and they're basically grown by about 6 weeks, so it is very tempting. I just don't know what I'd do with a whole bunch of them if I ended up getting lucky and a lot survived. Lol anyone interested in killifish?
UPDATE: some shrimps hatched! I've only seen like 4 at the same time, but then they are itty bitty, so I'm betting there's more in there. It's hard to believe they actually hatched at all, so I'm super excited to have bby shreemps!
what does that mean, 'berried' and 'saddle'? i've only ever dabbled in freshwater, the only shrimps i know are freeze dried. edumacate me!
@jacktrash berried means carrying eggs, and the saddle is a light yellow/white spot that all female shrimp have on their backs- that's where the eggs come from :D
