Honestly calamity sounds badass. Coolrunnin is...suspect and also bizarre. But in a good world calamity would be a common girls name. Along with eschatology.
I do know someone who goes by Fate online, but that's not her real name. (Her real name is Damaris, which is quite pretty (and a legit name) but you can probably guess where my mind immediately went when she mentioned it.) Mostly I'm just the kind of person who finds predestination depressing and doesn't get why you'd name your child something like that?
Aradia's a real name too. It's my middle name, and everyone on FB thought I put it there because I was a homestuck.
That's how I feel about Aradia. It's pronounced "A-rah-dia." NOT "A-ray-dia". I know because it's my middle name.
My dad's family had interesting names (well he was technically my grandpa but he and my grandma adopted me as a baby, so they were always mom & dad). His middle name was Narl, and in his (eight!) siblings there was his sister Gynith & his brother Revis. The rest were normal, if old fashioned (Charles, Ima, Bernice, Gayle & the like.) I love old names from the WWII generation. Also Uncle Charles' wife was Aunt Bee until I was like, 11 and realized it was Bea. :p
i am so sorry i would say it araydia all the time oh no Also what is the most wild Caitlín/Kathleen spelling we've seen. This is important. Sadly I myself have only been graced with normal shit like Kaitlynn as the weirdest. i am so sad
It's an Etruscan/Italian name. There's no way that it would have that pronunciation. Where do people even get that idea? Although I will say Homestuck has led to a 5000% decrease in people seeing my middle name and saying "Arcadia".
Because that's just what it looks like to me and I know fuck all about Italian. I only know enough about it to go "Well it's that thing that looks like Italian and typically is Italian when I say it is". That and that I can blame Italian war manuals for why colonel is spelt how it is. The pronunciation is France's fault. Fuck you France. No one likes your 17 vowels.
(a secret to everyone: aondeug loves french's 17 or whatever the fuck vowels and appreciates a language that can be so stupidly complicated on that front)
Faith is apparently a common enough name that the creators of Mirror's Edge decided that naming the protag Faith wouldn't raise any eyebrows. Of course, they make Leap of Faith jokes. (Protag's a traceurse.)
Faith is common-ish--one of the few virtue names that's still used fairly widely. Kind of along the lines of Hope.
I have to say while I hate the word I do like the sound of Chastity as a name. For similar reasons to why I like Calamity. I love that ending ity. So much. SADLY THAT WORD SUCKS SO.
