I seem to recall Discworld (I think it was Discworld) having a set of brothers named after vices and sins, with their sisters being named after virtues.
Yep! The Carters in Lancre. Chastity Carter is a """seamstress""" and Bestiality Carter is always very kind to animals.
And then in The Truth there's a one-off mention that Catastrophe Carter was just born and, despite rumor, is not a snake. :::PPP
Not bad, but might have been kinda awkward if they ever read LotR: just encountered a name which appears to be pronounced exactly like a geographic feature in Lord of the Rings. (Not going to say what it is because they're the first thing that comes up when you Google it.)
isn't that. the name of yeast infection critters?? WHY WOULD YOU NAME YOUR CHILD AFTER A VAGINA FUNGUS
I got curious and searched facebook for "candida" and went to "people" In addition to the one girl's aunt, a coworker apparently went to university with a Candida too? I counted 20 more people but it doesn't show how many there are in total so i'll just stop there. Some appear to be italian where maybe it has a different meaning? But yeah everyone please stop naming your kids after bacteria Edit: fungus, rather.
Considering Candide, I think variations on the name definitely predate it meaning "crotch rot." :::PPP
Well, it wasn't an actual name then either. It was pretty much a fable so there was no point in giving the characters real-sounding names.
Pretty bacterial names: Nitrospina Sphingopyxis Aliivibrio Burkholderia Flexilinea Leptospira Gemmatimonas Escherichia (i am joke)
is "Sam Hill" one of those euphemistic curses? I think I remember it being used in Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, but I might well be wrong about that.
