What’s the consensus on names where the first name and surname are basically the same? Is “John johnson” or “Roberta Roberts” bad? Neutral? An inevitability of naming conventions?
Definitely bad, imo. I think I told this story, but I have a friend whose last name is Robinson...and I’m damn glad that his wife kept her surname when they married, because her first name is Robyn.
Tumb user Glumshoe, who goes by Ship, has a story of how their name is Bad in another language Now im not sure if they irl were using Ship at that point in time, or if the name in question was something else i feel like i shouldnt, but i wanna gently poke their name for looking like its very easy to mishear as Shit im Sorry and its Rude to point it out but Here We Are
They're talking about their actual name, not Ship - which, incidentally, is short for "Shipwash" IIRC?
There's currently a young girl at our hospital who's frist name is 'Gift' (judging by her last name, at least one of her parents is anglophone) Now that would be fine in english. Except in german, 'gift' is also a word. it means 'poison'.
To be fair, Gift would be a bit odd in the States at least too. But at least the meaning is nice in English...poor kid.
man the management has gone through a few times to double check they have the right name and spelling for us for credits on the show i'm working on and there's a deep part of me that wants to come up with a great but terrible nickname for credits.
Iirc that one’s been used in the past? Never met anyone with the name though—I think it’s one of those old-timey names that fell out of favor. Please correct me if I’m wrong, though!
Looks like it’s Italian for “faceted jewel” or something, but it doesn’t look like it’s used as a name in Italian (note that this is all based on a fairly cursory google bc I am also tired). I think I got some wires crossed.
i just found out one of the kids of someone i know is named Maadix (presumably like Maddox) now the parents seem...idk if they named the kid or if it was the bio mom who no longer has custody hwhy would you inflict an unusual vowel And a double vowel on a kid thats like...jessiikuh or something
A good chunk of this post. Granted, some decent (if admittedly somewhat pretentious) names there, but...wow. Dishonorable mention to Tolightacandle.
