I don't have The Secret World but I own and have played The Park, which is set in the same world and I have a livestream of me crying for like five straight minutes. If it's anything like the spinoff standalone game then Fuck, I'd be screwed.
It doesn't have the first person perspective or as many jump scares usually and you can run around in underwear and a unicorn mask. But it definitely has its moments. I'm curious, what did you think about The Park? I've never known anyone who played that but not TSW.
I haven't finished it, because I've been livestreaming it for friends who enjoy my horror and wish to hear me scream, but it's hard to get everyone's attention all at the same time while fitting my schedule. Spoiler: spoilers for scenes I got to the part where she takes the drugs, and running around the carnival booths. It starts out very strongly, I think, but eventually it peters out and I started to get less scared of it. I think the impact of the drug trip did not go where they were expecting, and it made it 100% less scary. My commentary below is missing but it's because I was physically talking, so you can probably infer what I said. You can also pinpoint the exact moment I stopped being scared. This game is p rad! So far I've made a total cutie of a character, and joined the Dragon. I gotta say, from the blurb I read about the Dragon I expected a faction of Jokers and Junkrats, but the Dragon is actually intensely cool holy shit. (Also the Dragon gave me head which is just [thumbs up]) Currently running around Kingsmouth killing zombies and playing gopher. The interface in this game is definitely really cool, and the lore is rad as heck. Atmosphere is also excellent. The combat is really not fluid, but I think that's just because I'm bad at it?? I'm also starting to suspect that my initial instinct to go with one ranged weapon (Pistols, in this case), and one melee weapon (Chaos Magic) was wrong. I find myself mostly just using a single pistol attack to pull mobs, then spamming the spin attack thing Chaos Magic has. I'm considering switching from Pistols to Blade, but the animations for Blade are so floaty!! Overall I'm digging it! My character's nickname is AmtalRule and I'm on Arkadia. c:
Aaa I haven't played in so long I'm not even sure I have it installed on the new computer... This should be fixed. Pretty sure I'm also on Arkadia though, so there we go :D dragon high five, everybody
*boo's at all you Dragons* /Templar Some of that will get better as you unlock more options and can find abilities that go together well. I've never really mixed ranged and melee or used pistols soloing, but I know people who do. My style's just very "fuck it yolo". Blade is my favorite weapon, about the only thing I won't use it for is healing others. Btw, there's some good mods for the interface. I don't know what the default interface even looks like anymore, probably a lot different from the last time I used the default interface though. XD
PS: if anyone here wants free clothes, let me know #please take these #clothes they're breeding #my inventory can't support the children
Progress report! Made it to the Savage Coast, am currently holding off on exploring Innsmouth Academy bc I feel like I might be progressing a touch fast? Either way I wanna figure out this whole "how to fight" thing properly first. I'm more than halfway through the inner ability ring! Reached rank 2 in the Dragon! I've got like 20+ skill points banked because I'm not entirely sure what to do with them! Dumping them all into Talismans seems legit but I'm not excited about my potential gear level far outstripping my actual gear level. Also I realised lately that I'm making the usual mistake I always do in MMOs: Solo all the things. Playing with other people is the entire point of an MMO! I need people to play with! So later today I'm going to try to run the Polaris dungeon. Sampling group content + Better gear = Fuckin two birds one stone (also clothes are so expensive!! what!!! 100k for pants!!!!)
I... can't remember. I keep being like 'I'LL LOOK IT UP TOMORROW' but then I get wrapped up playing Overwatch and forget so here's a post just to mention I'm not ignoring you I'm just easily distracted :')
Congrats! I love Savage Coast. You'll probably hit a bit of a wall in the next area so backtracking, exploring and learning while you get AP is good. Generally you want to prioritize Head and Major talismans, though don't completely ignore the others. And its better to have higher potential gear level than to have your inventory full of pieces you can't use yet. Plus you get some stats just for spending SP on talismans! Good luck! I'm not sure how easy it is to find a group for normal level dungeons, but if you can't, I can take you through normal Polaris 100k stops being stupid expensive later on. I always have 1-2 mil and a lot of my friends have way more. idek how probably witchcraft I had to put a message in my signature because I kept forgetting to respond to threads and then getting anxious about it so I feel you.
Iiii finally got around to installing the game on this computer and checking my account! I've two characters, one templar and one dragon (the latter of which has received all of my attention and the former of which has been severely neglected), both on Arcadia, called Adebayo and Shaeko. (It's so sad, I can remember having almost-backstories or at least a general idea of who they were, but now I can't remember at all. Emi and the tale of OC neglect </3 Also can barely remember how the game works. Probably this is my chance to fulfill the triad by making an Illuminati so I get to replay the tutorial)
Fell into this game again yesterday, typed up some thoughts on my tumblr! -- Fell back into playing The Secret World recently. I forgot what an absolute cutie my character is. I have even acquired a headcanon: They lost their voice when the bees came, and that’s why they don’t speak. Now they’re fluent in various sign languages, can text at a thousand words/minute, and can completely reduce a person to ash with a raised eyebrow. (Currently torn between “The bees translate for them” and “They’re just super good at languages” re: understanding everybody else) Today I finished the Solomon Island story and opened up Egypt!! And after finishing up the inner ability ring I’ve once again built up more AP and SP than I know what to do with. My current Blade/Chaos loadout works p well, even if it’s just mostly me spamming the elite AoE slash + Blade Dance. Though I’m also interested in trying Assault Rifle/Blood Magic. Being a healer might be fun. Apparently there was a big update to Fusang recently! A nice excuse to take a peek at more structured PvP after visiting the various completely empty fight clubs. I popped into a map completely dominated by the Illuminati and was the only Dragon there. It was nice to return to something vaguely familiar, as Fusang reminds me a lot of WvW in GW2, a game mode I greatly enjoy. I ran around capturing unattended wells and getting variously curbstomped by Illuminati and Templars. After a while some more Dragons came in and we came close to taking one of the Illuminati facilities! I’ll definitely be exploring PvP some more. Later. When I’ve managed to forget just how much better everybody else was at this game. Maybe it’s a gear thing? I remain very interested in trying dungeons, and also completely friendless, fairly timid, and entirely unprepared. My current general “I guess these abilities kinda go together??” PvE build probably won’t cut it in any kind of more strictly defined role. Hopefully Assault Rifle/Blood Magic will click with me and I’ll be able to move away from the floaty sword animations. I might also take another crack at a more Chaos-leaning deck. Chaos Magic has the coolest goddamn names but the spinny claw attack got very old very fast. At some point I might sit down and actually define a character for my character. I did specifically join the RP server. Hit me up if you play the Secret World! My nickname is AmtalRule.
@Socratease I reblogged it. I admittedly don't know pvp well but if you have any pve build questions, feel free to ask. I will talk people's ears off about build theory if allowed
@Mala I'll take you up on that! I tried to brew up an AR/Blood Magic healy deck just now. It was a nice opportunity to dump all the SP and AP I've been hoarding, but turns out it's wildly sub-par and I could really use a proper Build Doctor's input. Actives: Anima Shot - A healing+damaging resource builder? Sounds perfect! Went into battle only to realize it just builds AR resources. Shot of Anima - Healing resource consumer that also deals a bit of damage. Alright. Infection - At some point I seem to have fallen in love with damage over time effects, so I threw this in as a potential way to deal with groups. Fire in the Hole - Felt like I needed a punchy AR resource consumer Tactical Retreat - My other build has a dedicated defensive ability, and this is what the Gun Hexer deck uses, so Slow the Advance - Hell yeah major AoE damage Anaesthesia - Another one ripped right from the Gun Hexer deck Passives: Anima Boost - A flat buff to Anima Shot sounds nice. Eagle Eye - Another flat buff to Anima Shot woo Thicker Than Water - Seemed like a good idea at the time. Pointless in hindsight with only two Blood Magic actives Anticoagulant - Anima Shot also applying a DoT effect? Neat! Dark Potency - Seems legit with my main attack applying Afflicted every time, even if I don't know what penetration actually is or does Leech Therapy - More synergy with Anima Shot woo Toxic Affinity - Grabbing an elite passive from another tree makes me feel special. In hindsight probably more meant for a deck dedicated to damage over time and on-crit effects. Results from a quick test run fighting some Draug in Blue Mountain: Not nearly as much damage as I had hoped for, and the healing is underwhelming as well. I died to a couple of Maulers and a Seacaller. Some of it could be put to me not having a single point of Heal Rating on my gear, and me never having used either weapon before, but I also don't actually know what I'm doing or what I want to achieve :I
@Mala Soloing, I guess? Still haven't seriously looked into dungeons, just kinda looking to try new things, and two steps into Egypt every mob is Hard or Very Hard. This has my current talisman loadout. I just kind of roll with whatever I come across that seems to have better stats. Is there an easy way to share loadouts? Apparently the chronicle doesn't display stats. Head: Crow's Ashes: +17 Hit Rating, +271 Health, +50 Penetration Rating, +166 Attack Rating Major Talismans: Ruthless Ring: +168 Health, +108 Attack Rating, +10 Hit Rating, +36 Critical Rating Attuned Medallion: +464 Health, +53 Attack Rating, +32 Magical Protection, +11 Physical Protection Attuned Bracer: +464 Health, +53 Attack Rating, +11 Magical Protection, +32 Physical Protection Minor Talismans: Pure Coins: +345 Health, +39 Attack Rating, +9 Block Rating, +25 Magical Protection Pure Chain: +108 Health, +69 Attack Rating, +13 Block Rating, +11 Magical Protection Sasquatch Effigy: +18 Critical Rating, +128 Health, +15 Penetration Rating, +80 Attack Rating Weapons: SKAR-L: 172 Weapon Power, +63 Critical Rating Devastating Blood Magic Focus: 205 Weapon Power, +15 Hit Rating, +48 Crit Power Rating
@Socratease So you might have noticed by now, but leech builders only build resources for AR. So it'd be better to have an AoE builder. There's Open Vein in Blood, or Surpressing Fire in AR (which would let you use the passive Leeching Frenzy which is my favorite soloing passive). You could still keep Anima Shot as a heal if you want or use a blood heal. If you end up swapping out Thicker Than Blood or leech passives, there's several passives in Blood that work good with affliction. Elemental Force is also good. For an alternate elite, look at Gross Anatomy if you running afflicts. Also you can replace any defensive glyphs you have with crit or pen and get a major heal rating piece when you can
